So, the question is:  "How do we respond?"  How do we respond to the changes in our midst?  How do we respond to the challenges and opportunities in our community?  How do we respond to the call of discipleship that our Lord puts in front of us each and every day?  How do we respond to the gifts that were first given to us by God?

The crowd cheered victoriously, "ELI-JAH!  ELI-JAH!  ELI-JAH!"  The contest had been won.  The battle tale is a fantastic story of fire and frenzy.  It is our Lesson  this Sunday :  Elijah v. The Prophets of Baal; Live from Mount Carmel.  (1Kings 18:20-39)

The bigger battle in this story is fought to answer the question, "who is god?"  By the end of the lesson it is clear, "The LORD is God".  Or as they say in Hebrew, "ELI-JAH!"

Catechism Life of Jesus Class Begins  this Sunday
As part of the new learning covenant for confirmation, a monthly class will meet  on Sunday evenings to study the life of Jesus.  The class begins with youth group supper at  5:30.  Instruction then follows in the Preschool Playroom,  6:00-7:30.  Each youth is to bring one parent to make this journey with them.

The goal of this course is to grow as disciples by focusing more deeply on Jesus of Nazareth.  The Gospel of Luke will be our text.

+ care

Dear Nativity friends,

Tom and I can't begin to tell you how much your beautiful cards and messages of sympathy meant to us in our sorrow. It helps tremendously to know that we have such thoughtful, caring friends.

Gratefully,
Tom and Irma Allison

+  lutheridge

Dear Friends of Lutheridge and NovusWay,

The prayers and advocacy of thousands of friends across the southeastern U.S. have been answered with the announcement today that Duke Energy will not be running the electric transmission line through Lutheridge.  In fact they've changed their plan so the proposed 230 kV Foothills Transmission Line and Campobello, SC substation will no longer be necessary.  I've attached a copy of the news release which provides more information on the plan.

Please know how much we appreciate your partnership in this process.  We've been humbled by the response of so many who love the ministry and worked earnestly to protect the Lutheridge campus.  One supporter wrote to Duke, "This is holy ground for me, my family and my congregation.  Please don't destroy this sacred place."  Back in October when Duke announced they were delaying the decision, a representative called our office to comment on both the volume and the professional nature of the feedback that had been received by friends of Lutheridge and NovusWay.  Thank you again on behalf of Lutheridge and the entire NovusWay family.

Women of Nativity will meet on Thursday, November 12, at 11:00 am in the fellowship hall. Bring a bag lunch if you want and join in the discussion concerning a Rob Bell DVD. All women are welcome.

Immediately following the Women's meeting, the Card Ministry will meet at 12:30 pm to make cards for our members on the prayer list and our college students. Please make sure the church office has your young adult's current college address. This group has fun making beautiful cards under the direction of Ruth Tracy. Talent is not needed, but we need all the willing hands who come. All are welcome.

Our annual fall leaf cleanup   will be on two Saturdays in November ... the 14th and the 21st.  Help is needed from the congregation to get the church grounds looking great for the winter months. Please bring a rake or a blower with you if you have one. We'll begin at 9:00 am and end at noon.  Donuts and cider provided.
