2014 Prom - "A Night in Disguise"
Prom Night is a rite of passage for high school students across the country, and that certainly rings true for PPAS students.  On Saturday, April 12, the Junior Class hosted "A Night in Disguise" and the students had a great evening together!  In addition to music and dancing, the students enjoyed a special Chicken Cordon Bleu dinner and all the fixin's.  The evening's festivities culminated in the crowning of Jinghan Li and Javier Castrellon as Prom Queen and Prom King 2014.

The AdvancED external review team of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) visited campus in February to assess PPAS for re-accreditation. The team conducted 48 interviews with teachers, students, parents, and staff members and was very pleased with their findings. Their preliminary report indicates they will be recommending PPAS for re-accreditation, pending further review and final action by the AdvancED Accreditation Commission.   We will receive official notice of our accreditation this summer.

These are a few "Powerful Practices" that the team reported from their review:

The school integrates faith and values by fostering the intellectual, physical, civic and spiritual growth necessary for students to become model Christian leaders.

Teachers are passionate about creating a family-like, nurturing environment while holding high expectations.  They work well together as a strong team, creating a culture of innovation.

The students have numerous opportunities to participate in a wide variety of course offerings, leadership activities, seminars, competitions, extra-curricular and co-curricular organizations, clubs and projects.

International Banquet 2014
Eutemio Palacios and Reyna Martinez served as Master of Ceremonies

Presbyterian Pan American School held its annual International Banquet in March.  Each year, students and teachers recognize the different countries that are home to PPAS students.

One of the favorite aspects of the event is all the delicious food provided by students that represents an important aspect of their home country or a meaningful family tradition. In addition to the vast array of tasty samples everyone enjoyed from around the world, students also made special presentations about their home countries.

Students Visit Austin Seminary

Four Pan Am students attended a conference for Latino Pastors at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary the weekend of April 4-5. The event gives students an in-depth look at seminary as they explore possible vocations in service to the church.

Valeria Saenz, Edgar Garcia, Hefzi Jimenez and Sarid Ramon, all of whom are fully bilingual, are well on the way to becoming excellent leaders in Spanish- and English-speaking congregations.  These four students were accompanied by Dr. Dalglish and PPAS Director of Spiritual Life, Rev. Mary Rogers-Ellsworth.
Eagles' Baseball - Our "Field of Dreams"

Several years ago, PPAS math teacher and baseball coach Hardy Robertson had a dream to add baseball to the athletic program. His dream became a reality during the 2011-2012 school year, and until recently, all baseball games were played off campus.  During the off-season, Mr. Robertson, the baseball players and a number of other volunteers worked tirelessly to build a field on campus. The Eagles Baseball "Field of Dreams" is taking shape on campus, and even though there is still work to be done, we are excited that we now have our very own home field advantage!

The hard work is paying off!  Our Eagles baseball team recently took First Place at a tournament held in Benavides, and three of our players received MVP honors.  We are so proud of the accomplishments of these young men, both on and off the field.
Praise Team Visits Dripping Springs Presbyterian Church

The congregation of Dripping Springs Presbyterian Church welcomed the PPAS Praise Band into their congregation and their homes on Sunday, March 16. Accompanied by PPAS Choir Director Joe Garcia, the students participated in worship, and Dr. Dalglish preached the sermon.

Many congregations throughout the state enjoy having PPAS students visit their churches to help lead worship.   Please contact Linda Evans, Director of Church Relations, ([email protected] or 512-659-2636) if you or your church would be interested in having our Morris Chapel Choir, Praise Team or a student ensemble visit your church.
