Create Your Own Future
2014 Convocation
Director of Spiritual Life, Mary Rogers-Ellsworth, presents new student, Daniela Jimenez, with a bilingual Bible.
The tradition of presenting a bilingual Bible to each new student carries on! Each year every new student receives a Bible in English and in his or her native language. Students use their Bibles in the classroom, in worship and in personal reflection time. The dual languages give each student an opportunity to comprehend God's word in their native tongue, while simultaneously helping to improve their command of English.

As Convocation kicked off another school year, Dr. Dalglish (President) and Mrs. Perez (Principal) welcomed students, faculty and staff to the 2014-2015 school year. The energy among new and returning students was stoked by Dr. Dalglish's and Mrs. Perez's challenge to work hard, to give 100% and for each student to create your own future. In fact, that very charge is the theme for this school year - Create Your Own Future!
New Director of Church & Donor Relations
Signe Fredrickson
We are pleased to introduce Signe (pronounced Sig-nay) Fredrickson as our new Director of Church & Donor Relations.  Signe joins us following Linda Evans' retirement in May after many dedicated years of service. For eight years, Signe served as a Development Officer with Presbyterian Children's Homes and Services. She is very well acquainted with churches and Presbyterians throughout the area, and she hit the ground running on day one! Signe lives in San Antonio and will work remotely from Forest Hills Presbyterian Church in Helotes, TX.

Linda Evans
We welcome Signe to Pan Am, and we give thanks to Linda for all of her hard work in keeping our school connected to the 850 churches in our synod.  We wish Linda the very best as she settles into retirement and enjoys the opportunity to spend more time with her husband, David, and their children and grandchildren.

Signe may be reached at [email protected] or 210-618-7067.
Celebrating Carmen's 40th Anniversary Carmen's 40th Anniversary

In 1974, two major events potentially changed the course of human history - President Richard Nixon resigned, and Carmen (Lopez) Gonzales began working at Presbyterian Pan American School. In all seriousness, in early August we celebrated Carmen's 40 years of service to the school. Carmen graduated from Pan Am in 1968 and has served our school in various capacities over the years.  She currently serves as the school's Business Manager, a position she has held for 26 years.

"Miss Carmen" has blessed students, parents, faculty, staff, and friends and donors of the school with her faithful and dedicated service.  We remain grateful to Carmen for her role in making Pan Am the wonderful school that it is today!

Community Splash

What's more refreshing than jumping into the pool on a hot South Texas Saturday afternoon? Not much! On Saturday, August 9, the Campus Ministry Council hosted a "Community Splash" to help new students become acquainted with our returning students and as a way to build community and just have fun.  Students had a great time playing various water games and cooling off in the campus swimming pool. Our Mission Work Group from Covenant Presbyterian Church in Sherman joined in the fun, and everyone enjoyed an evening barbeque.  We give thanks for our wonderful and creative student leaders who made this event possible!

Mission Work Group on Campus

Mission Work Group - Planting

What do you get when you combine nine adults from Covenant Presbyterian Church in Sherman with the first week of a new school year?  A Mission Work Group that understands what it means to be flexible!  During the week of August 6, we welcomed nine adults from Sherman who came ready to lend a hand where needed.  Dr. Dalglish's affinity for native plants and landscaping helped to focus the group's work at restoring native grasses, trees and shrubs on campus.  They created over 850 grass seed balls that consist of soil, mulch, native grass seed and water. These balls were planted along with other native plants in the median of the drive into campus.

The group also had the opportunity to attend chapel services with our students and to interact with them in various activities on campus. Our students always appreciate having visitors, and we are grateful for the time they shared with us. Mission Work Group in Chapel

We are grateful to the Mission Work Group from Covenant Church in Sherman for their hard work, great flexibility and dedication - especially in the South Texas heat!

Fall Athletics Underway
Falls sports really add an air of excitement to the beginning of the school year. The Lady Eagles volleyball teams jumped into the season with games in Agua Dulce, Premont and Bishop followed by a tournament on campus on August 23. Coach Reili Cantu is quite excited to see the teams develop and grow as the season progresses.

The boys' soccer team got off to a slower start due to inclement weather canceling a game in San Antonio.; The team will hit the field for a tournament in Conroe August 22-23. Coach Ryan Martinez is excited for his team's potential.

The Eagles Cross Country team is already practicing, and Coach Cantu reports that while numbers are small, the group is working hard and trial times are encouraging.
