"Celebration" Weekend
Student Leaders

Students enjoyed a weekend of faith-building and community-building activities during the annual "Celebration" weekend held April 10-11.

Each year our student leaders plan and lead this event on campus.

Activities consisted of community games, ice breakers, student-led talks and skits, praise songs, worship and other faith-based activities. Each student leader also shared their own faith stories and helped other students develop in their personal faith journeys.  At the conclusion of the event, students read letters of encouragement that they received from parents, family members, friends, other students and staff.   We are grateful for all of our student leaders and for Pastor Mary Rogers-Ellsworth, our Spiritual Life Director, for organizing this event each year.

Science Fair

Science Fair 4.15.15

Students participated in the campus-wide Science Fair on Wednesday, April 15. Over 50 projects were submitted covering a wide range of creative topics. Students worked in pairs to gain hands-on experience with scientific research.

Through these projects, students learned how to formulate clear ideas about the world and then tested their ideas through rigorous experimentation. Our goal in this process was to train students to understand how scientific progress moves forward and how to investigate their questions on their own instead of relying only on the opinions of others.  It was great to see the broad range of scientific questions the students decided to test this year.  We are proud of all of our students who participated, and we are also grateful to our volunteer judges from Texas A&M University-Kingsville.

Pennies for Patients Fundraiser
Pennies for Patients

Members of the Student Council sponsored a "Pennies for Patients" fundraiser in an effort to raise funds to benefit leukemia patients. Students began with a goal of raising $100 per grade level through the donation of pennies, but when it became clear that there might not be enough pennies to meet the goal, the creative idea of adopting flamingos was born! Each student was challenged to adopt a pink flamingo for a day for a $2 donation. Each student who held the flamingo for a day was then allowed to choose the next student who would adopt the flamingo until they came up with their $2 and passed it on again.

We give thanks for our students' willingness to undertake benevolent projects such as this and for their creativity in making it fun for the entire student body.

Mission Work Group from San Gabriel Presbyterian Church Visits Campus

A mission work group of four adults and six junior and senior high school students from San Gabriel Presbyterian Church in Georgetown, Texas visited campus during their Spring Break. They volunteered during their time off from school and work to beautify our campus by planting native plants, building new flower beds, helping to assemble fencing at the baseball field, as well as assisting with other needed projects on campus.

The group also had opportunities to interact with our students during chapel services, recreation time in the gym and at our spring pep rally. Spending time with students from the United States helps to broaden the educational experience of our international students. We are grateful to all of the volunteers who selflessly give of their time to benefit our school and our students.
Choir Visits Canyon Lake Presbyterian Church

Choir Trip to Canyon Lake PC Students in the Morris Chapel Choir visited Canyon Lake Presbyterian Church the weekend of March 28-29. In addition to participating in worship on Sunday morning, students had opportunities to visit with church families who hosted them in their homes.

Students also enjoyed the unique opportunity to spend time relaxing at the Guadalupe River.  It was a wonderful weekend of glorifying God and enjoying God's beautiful creation.

Student Center Update
Student Center Construction

Although record rainfall has caused some delays, progress continues to be made on our new Student Center. A total of 75 yards of concrete was poured into the ring beam which will support the dome roof.

Our "Principles of Engineering" students have been closely watching the dome-building process, which has given them a great lesson outside of the classroom.  The project is estimated to be completed in late summer with a grand opening ceremony being planned for September 26.
