Administrator's Corner
First off, thank you for all of you who responded to the call out to help students get to school every day and on time! Our current year to date attendance is 91.2% and has improved over last year's 87.2% at this time. How is this happening? Our seniors did a fantastic job of gaining their attendance forgiveness days last week during PARCC, and our juniors have done an amazing job of winning many of our monthly attendance challenges which I'm sure occurred by having the lowest tardy rate per month, per class
all year long!
During the month of March, so far, our sophomores have had the lowest percentage chronically absent students. (According to the district chronic absenteeism is the number of students with an average attendance rate of less than 90% including only "excused" and "unexcused" absences.) Our freshman started the year out strong with their monthly attendance rate, and proudly finished this last week off as winners with a 94.2% weekly attendance rate for our PARCC testing week. Along with these class successes, we have had individual students take accountability and serve a 20 minute detention after school for tardies during the day, and students attend Saturday school to make up time missed during the week, or simply to come and study.
I say all of this to affirm the research that shows high student attendance correlated to higher outcomes in grades, more positive behaviors, participation in after school activities, and value for long term goals in education. As we all work together toward empowering our students' futures, let's start with the very simple step of helping them get to every class, every day in a timely manner.

We know the real magic of learning occurs in the classroom as well as everyday life. But we can't deny the impact of a positive work environment for adults or students. And TJ wants to invest in our kids by investing in the spaces that build great study habits and a sense of community--the library and a new study lounge.
Sometimes its the little things, the little upgrades, that lift spirits and translate into a more productive environment. Fresh paint, new furniture.
The TJ Bucket Challenge is a community-building, spirit-building exercise as much as it is a fundraiser to freshen up the school for our students. Won't you please help us help TJ?

TJ Robotics Excels at State!
|
TJ Robotics team "The Spartan Six" made it to the final round of the State Competition.
On February 28th at the FIRST Tech Challenge State Competition, one of TJ's four teams that made it to the State Finals, won every match of the qualifying portion of the day, and was the number one seed going into finals. "The Spartan Six" looked like they were going to win it all, but lost a heartbreaking match in the last round of the finals. The TJ sophomore robotics team was still proud to take home the 2nd place trophy, and are optimistic about their chances in the future to move on to Super Regionals.
