Secondary Curriculum Coordinator Mary Murphy recounts the creation of DCSD's World Class curriculum--  a four-month process of teachers across grade levels and subjects analyzing and evaluating the essence of the Colorado Academic Standards. They then increased their rigor, integrated them, and made them global, creating what is now known as the Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum (GVC).   Read the story HERE

On Tuesday, DCSD's Human Resources team presented its annual report to the Board of Education, which shows that the District is retaining 95.1 percent of employees who were evaluated as highly effective and 89.1 percent of those deemed effective during the 2014-2015 school year.  Read this story HERE

DOUGLAS COUNTY RESIDENTS GIVE 'HOPE' TO FAMILIES IN NEED

Douglas County Schools, community groups, and residents have donated lost and found items, coats, clothing, and other items for an annual back-to-school drive for students and families attending HOPE Learning Center. Now three years strong, the drive is helping those in need at 14 HOPE centers in Colorado, including the HOPE Academy in Douglas County.  Read this story HERE

Artwork from students at Ben Franklin Academy was on display in the stairwells during the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at CenturyLink Tower in Denver on Friday September 11, 2015.  Three hundred forty-three firefighters climbed the 55-story building twice to commemorate their New York Fire Department brothers who perished in the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.  The BFA student artwork was displayed in the stairwells to thank and encourage the firef ighters, and now it will be distributed to the participating firehouses for display. Join your fellow students to discuss how you can help shape the policies of  Douglas County. Learn about local and state government and share your ideas  and opinions with elected officials. Partner with your fellow students to  identify solutions that you can share with Youth Congress participants and  community officials. 9th-12th graders residing in Douglas County are eligible to participate.
