Hopefully everyone is having a great summer!

The WTS NC Triangle Chapter recently held its mid-year review. It was a time for us to look back over the past year events, finalize the events for the remainder of the year, and begin to plan for 2015. As always, we had a great time getting together and brainstorming new programs.

Upcoming events include our August luncheon on Private-Public Partnerships in Transportation and a breakfast titled "Choosing Your Future You" in September. Additionally, we have a very exciting membership event for October in the works - several brewery tours! You will be very disappointed to miss out, so look for more details coming soon!

Our chapter has gained 15 new members in 6 months, which is amazing, and we want to keep growing and adding to our chapter. If you're interested in getting more involved or have some great ideas of for topics, please don't hesitate to contact me.  Keep watching for our weekly updates - we always have something great on the horizon!

Kimberly J. Levine

President, WTS NC Triangle Chapter

In addition, she will discuss the NCDOT Public Private Partnerships Policy & Procedures" manual that was published in January 2014 and describe some examples of P3 in progress. Register here for the luncheon and for more information. Be sure to take note of the different venue for this luncheon.
Upcoming for September

"Choose Your Future You" Breakfast

Iona Thomas, associate vice president with Stewart Engineering, will discuss investing in yourself and how to achieve the greatest success possible at the next breakfast series on Sept 4. Ms. Thomas will share her path from working as a Washington, D.C., defense analyst to her position today designing some of North Carolina's most ambitious greenways and trail projects. Individual success is tied to how well we are able to connect our daily choices with what is best for our future selves. Ms. Thomas will provide some tips on making and implementing career change decisions. Click here to register.

Featured Business

URS is a full-service engineering and planning firm with more than 55,000 professional engineers, planners, and technicians in more than 50 countries worldwide. URS' North Carolina offices, located in Morrisville, Wilmington, and Charlotte, have a combined staff of more than 300 professional engineers, planners, and scientists with a long history of delivering quality services to various local, state, and federal entities. Local URS transportation projects currently include bicycle, pedestrian, roadway, bridge and transit plans for state and municipal clients. Our services take the client from conception to completion, including feasibility studies, EIS development, public involvement, cultural resource studies, design, and construction administration.

URS' percentage of women in the engineering and technical professions is higher than the industry average, and we are working diligently to increase the percentage of women at all levels of employment within the corporation. To support this effort, URS has implemented The Network for the Advancement of Women, with a mission to fully recognize the talents and capabilities of women in hiring processes, career development, and advancement decisions. This network incorporates an internal networking site, Yammer, on which the women's networking group has more than 1,200 members. In addition, URS continues to support the admirable efforts of professional associations supporting this cause, such as WTS and SWEP (Society of Women Environmental Professionals). On a local level, more than one-third of the 90 North Carolina transportation staff is composed of female employees. URS is actively seeking roadway designers, bridge engineers, traffic engineers and planners, stormwater engineers, and more. For more information, visit URS.com.
New WTS Chapter
Western North Carolina
A new WTS chapter is starting up in Western North Carolina. All transportation professionals are welcome. A lunch-and-learn will be scheduled soon for this summer. For more information, contact Lori Hembree or Lyuba Zuyeva.

Professional Connections

For those looking for networking opportunities within the Chapter, consider joining the Professional Connections program. Each quarter, the members of the program are split into groups of four or five, and each group plans a lunch meeting. It's a good way to meet others and learn about their careers, hobbies and interests. For more information, or to sign up, contact Karen Reynolds.
