Thought for the Day

"Humility does not rob people or take anything from them.  Rather, it holds together everything in love.  The way of humility, of reconnecting to the humus, remembers the sacred Ground of being within us all."

- John Philip Newell,
from A New Harmony

Friends,

How about taking a moment to enjoy this clip Doug Swift posted of Sunday night's Pete Seeger Tribute with Bill Cohen and Carl Yaffey...

Turn turn turn
"Turn, Turn, Turn"

And thanks so much to all of you--particularly to Judith Waite Allee, Anne Crowley, Judith Thomas, Lyn & Mike Robertson, Tom & Jeff Burkett, & Kitty Leatham--who helped us provide a great evening of fun & inspiration.

Peace,

Dwight

Announcements

Tonight--The Feminist Class
...meets at Susan Richardson's, 211 W. Elm St. Granville, 7-8:30 PM.

This Thursday, July 24th --
A Cleaning up the Pews Work Party!

Well, to quote Property Committee chair, Sandy Ellinger: "Going, going, gone!"  Our pew cushions, made by Ostermoor & Co., Inc. had served their time--and then some.  We don't know exactly when the cushions were installed, but the image on the tags was trademarked in 1905, if that gives you any hint of their tenure in our grand old building.

Tomorrow afternoon at 3 PM, a group will be washing down the wooden pew seats with a mild cleaner--do come by and help if you have an hour or so in the afternoon free.  Many hands make light work!

This Friday - A FAMILY SWIM PARTY!
4th Friday--July 25th
5 PM -8 PM "rain or shine"
Evergreen Pool and Clubhouse
151 Pine Tree Ct. Granville
Directions:  The pool is one block east of the Sharon Valley and Welsh Hills (or Price Rd.) intersection.  Turn right on Spruce, pool and clubhouse on the left.  You can park in the neighborhood or in a small field behind the pool.  Call Diane Jaquish  -  614-586-5285 or Kitty Leatham - 412-799-4118 if you need help!!

So grab your suits and towels and come for some cooling fun and good eats!   We will be serving Hotdogs, Burgers, Lemonade, Dessert and we are asking you to bring a dish to pass..think salads!  Tables and chairs, plates and cutlery provided...

PLEASE DO NOT BRING ANY GLASSWARE OR OTHER GLASS ITEMS.

Thanks to Diane Jaquish for sharing her club with us!

This Sunday, July 27th

Sunday, August 3rd
Special Guest, Rev. Dr. Henry Mugabe
President, Zimbabwe Theological Seminary
in worship, 10 AM
Rev. Paula Dempsey of the Alliance of Baptists will be accompanying Dr. Mugabe who will be sharing a morning message with us.  Henry has been a strong supporter of liberty of conscience ("soul freedom") for many years, and has worked tirelessly to assure that an open-minded Christian witness continues to thrive in southern Africa.  You can read more about his struggle in this article:
 US Baptists support Zimbabwe Seminary
Be sure to come and meet this well-known Christian leader!

Also, note that Rev. Carolyn Piper (who will be hosting Henry for the weekend) will be holding an "open house" so that people can spend some time with Henry later in the afternoon.  It will be at her home from 4-7 PM.  She writes, "Henry has an amazing story of survival and recovery in a very difficult situation that continues and serves as a reminder of God's grace.  Paula Dempsey, Alliance Minister of Partnership Relations,  will also be here to share stories of her recent tour of Eastern Europe."
