CANINE CARDIO FIT & SPA RETREAT

At Morris Animal Inn, we kicked 2014 off to a healthy start with our Canine Cardio Fit & Spa Retreat! From January 13-17, pets attended daycare for a week of fitness, fun and healthy snacks.

Participants stretched their muscles and their minds with doga sessions, trotted on the canine treadmill and swam laps in our indoor pool. They also chased toys up and down the stair "muttster," walked briskly on our nature trails, palled around with their dog and human friends in group play sessions and more!

Each day, pets went home with a special toy or treat, plus a recipe for making their own healthy treats at home to help them get or stay fit.

BARKER BOWL & "TAIL-GATE" DAYCARE PARTY
The biggest football game of the season is almost here, and at Morris Animal Inn, we counted down the days by celebrating with the biggest game on four legs! Our Barker Bowl was a hit for football fans and cheerleaders alike - with a fun indoor field for smaller pups, giant goalposts in the endzone at our outdoor stadium, and handmade puppy pretzel treats for all of our participants.

In a game of Seahounds versus Barkos, the Seahounds came out on top with 138 touchdowns to the Barkos' 106! After a busy day of scoring touchdowns and playing with other dogs and staff, each pup went home with their own set of MVP "Most Valuable Pooches" trading cards.

Dogs and referees alike had a blast at the Barker Bowl, but the fun didn't stop on the sidelines! The New York Times, The Daily Record and The Star Ledger all stopped by to join in the celebration. Read all of their coverage of the game on our Press webpage.

A portion of the proceeds were donated to the Animal Welfare Federation of New Jersey. For more game coverage, photos and our very own kitty halftime video, be sure to visit our Facebook page or Events Page to download your own photos from the Shutterfly link!

LOVE YOUR PET DAY: FEBRUARY 20TH

Though we celebrate love for our pets every day, the official Love Your Pet Day is February 20th! Join us in celebrating this fun holiday along with Valentine's Day by giving your dog or cat a little extra TLC this month.

Consider scheduling an appointment for one of our many pampering activities: an aqua massage session to soothe tired muscles, a warm bath with our signature Scent of the Month shampoo or a trip to our grooming salon to get their nails cut, filed, and even painted! Our staff is always here to make sure your pets look and feel their best. Call 973-539-0377 to set up an appointment today!
PET OF THE MONTH

February's Pet of the Month is three-year-old mix Rowlf! This super friendly beagle mix was a week long participant in our Canine Cardio Fit & Spa retreat. His efforts during treadmill trots and agility workouts paid off - Rowlf lost a whole pound by the end of the week!

"Rowlfi" loves to get out and play in our group yard - he is fast as a bullet and, according to his owners, a bit of a show off! He loves zooming around the yard and racing between our staff members to say hello.

At home, Rowlf loves to nap on his owner's bed during the day. He is very in tune to people's feelings and always tries to make them feel better when they aren't at their best. At night, Rowlf helps keep watch over his nine-month-old baby sister. He loves getting to know the new human in the house, almost as much as he loves sneaking bites of her veggies and teething snacks!

CONGRATULATIONS, ROWLF!

*We accept Pet of the Month entries via email (marketing@morrisanimalinn.com) & Facebook. Please include a photo, your pet's name, age, breed and any special skills, traits or favorite activities in your entry. Cats and dogs are both welcome to enter!

On our weekly blog "If They Could Talk", we discuss how to keep your pet happy and healthy all year round. Over the past very chilly month, we offered some tips for caring for your pet in the cold weather.

As the temperature drops, it's important to recognize the signs of freezing and frostbite in pets. We describe the symptoms and offer advice for treating a pet after exposure to the cold.

As the temperature drops further, our grooming salon continues to offer warm facials and paw soaks, luxury brush-outs, soothing baths and full grooms for dogs and cats. While these services definitely spoil your pet, a visit to the grooming salon is also an important part of their regular routine. Read why grooming is good for your pet's health, and watch the video below for an inside look at our very own, full-service salon!

MEET OUR STAFF:

DANA - CLIENT CARE

Dana starting working at Morris Animal Inn in our Lodging Department in 2010, but she's been helping animals since she received a pet pig as a present for her twelfth birthday. Dana always wanted to work with animals, and loves having the chance to get to know our clients and their pets as a Client Care Specialist.

Dana joined our Guest Services Department in June 2012 as a Client Care Specialist. Her day-to-day responsibilities include informing new clients of our many pampering services, giving tours of our facility and setting up reservations for lodging, daycare and grooming, as well as catering to all of our clients' (and guests') requests.

After growing up in a family of animal lovers, Dana was drawn to the family-owned Morris Animal Inn and loves working alongside such a supportive and friendly staff. Her goal is to meet and get to know every pet who comes through our doors; she can often be found correctly guessing the breed of a dog just by hearing their bark!

Dana is the proud owner of two eight-year-old dachshunds, Nicholas and Mason. Though she claims these littermates are troublemakers, they have their sweet sides; they are attached at the hip and love to give hugs. Dana is also a proud newlywed and she loves to travel, spend time with her family and take excellent care of her plant collection.

Intro to Nose Work

Canine Nose Work is a new detection style sport designed to utilize your dog's natural hunting and searching abilities. In nose work, dogs are trained to find a specific target odor within a search area. Since Nose Work involves using your dog's natural instincts it can be taught to any dog regardless of age, or skill level. The purpose of this 8 week Introduction to Nose Work class is to teach your dogs to search including: containers, corners, and elevation. This is a sport your dog was born to do!
