California's "Cap and Trade" Program will Increase Fuel Prices from 4% to 19% effective January 1, 2015.
See this article (view). This increase represents a hidden tax as a result of California's "cap and trade" program. It is projected to raise gas prices anywhere from $.16 to $.76 a gallon beginning January 1, 2015. CAWA has joined a coalition to actively oppose the implementation of this tax. Contact our California legislative advocate, Gary Conover at 916.233.9655 or gary@garyconover.com for further details.
CAWA Has Joined with Cargo Chief to Save You Money and Time When Transporting Product Via Truck
You can save up to 40% on trucking costs when moving product in the United States and Canada. See the enclosure (view) for details. Start saving money and time by using this exclusive benefit from CAWA. This is another example of bringing value to your membership in the Association.
AB 1522 in California is Set to Legislate Yet Another Employer Mandate
The mandate will require all employers, large and small, to provide all employees in California with paid sick leave, and threatens employers with statutory penalties as well as litigation for alleged violations. The bill requires that all employers provide any employee who has worked in California for seven days with paid sick leave, at an accrual rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked. Any unused sick leave accrued in the preceding year could be carried over to the next year, which is a significant change in existing law. While many employers voluntarily offer sick leave for full-time employees, expanding this to a mandate on all employees to temporary, seasonal, and part-time employees will create a huge burden on employers.  CAWA is opposing this bill along with several business related associations. For further information, contact our California based legislative advocate, Gary Conover at 916.233.9655 or gary@garyconover.com
Do You Need Business and Vehicle Insurance Coverage?
CAWA has enhanced its relationship with its insurance partners in California, Nevada and Arizona to bring you "one stop" shopping for all your insurance needs (business and personal). The Association most recently added property casualty products from major A+ rated carriers to its portfolio of offerings. See the enclosure for details (view). Remember, it doesn't hurt to have your insurances quoted to assure you are receiving the best quality and competitive product that is available.
Prepare for the Inevitable: a Federal Department of Labor Audit
The federal Department of Labor (DOL) has said it wants to audit all employee benefit plans in the country by the end of 2015. While it may be hard-pressed to meet that goal, the DOL will be out in full force to audit employers' health plans to ensure they comply with the Affordable Care Act. All employers that provide employee benefits to their workers need to be prepared when the DOL comes knocking. What will the DOL be looking for from you? Find out more here. Should you have further questions, contact Mat Nabity of CAWA's insurance partner, Armstrong & Associates at 800.575.6891 or mnabity@armstrongprofessional.com.
Compliance Alert: New Laws Taking Effect July 1, 2014 in California
From family leave to background checks to workers compensation issues, new laws take effect July 1st! See the new laws in the enclosure (view).
