Greetings!

We hope your summer is off to a great start. A lot has happened since we last emailed in April.

We have crunched the numbers and last year 2,574 Quarton Society members like yourself invested a combined $1.63 million in our community through United Way. Our society's giving accounts for almost 16 percent of the total of $10.35 million raised last year.

Thank you for the support!

We also know that 22 Quarton Society members registered on the Volunteer Now website after receiving our last email. Thank you. If you haven't visited the site, you can do that here

Hundreds of people checked out the volunteer fair and we increased sign-ups five-fold that day.

If you missed it, click here to see how it looked. Many of the links are still available, so you can search for opportunities today.

We also asked website visitors that day to share their biggest barrier to volunteering. You can see the results of the survey below. (Make sure you allow images in this email to see it.)

If we can help you find an opportunity that fits your need, just reply to this email and let us know.

Until next time,

Quarton Society Committee Chair

Upcoming Opportunity

June 13 is Show You Care Day.

On the five-year flood anniversary of the 2008 floods, the City of Cedar Rapids, KCRG and United Way encourage all residents to show they care by volunteering to help others through community service projects that day.

Day of Caring Wrap

Volunteers from 53 companies contributed an estimated 5,000 hours on May 9 during United Way's Day of Caring. The estimated total volunteer impact to the community was $110,700.

As a result of these volunteer efforts:

  • Three ramps were built to give seniors more independence.
  • Several camps are now ready to welcome children for summer programs.
  • Many seeds were planted that will produce fresh food for low-income families.
  • Over 6,000 students know how to sign up for summer reading programs through the local library.
  • Homes were painted and rehabbed.
  • Food was sorted and boxed.
