Mayor Wild to Join Nation's Mayors in White House Meeting with President Obama

Westland, MI- Mayor William R. Wild will travel to the nation's capital today and join more than 200 local chief executive officers at the 82nd Winter Meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM).

The gathering will convene at the Capital Hilton in Washington D.C from January 22-24.  This session's theme is "Innovations That Lead."

Wild will meet with Capitol Hill leaders and Administration officials and to urge Congress to continue to work in a bipartisan fashion to spur job creation and economic growth in America's cities and metropolitan areas, many of which are still plagued with high unemployment. He will also lobby U.S. House and Senate members to extend fire safety grants to keep the Wayne-Westland Fire Department fully staffed.

He will participate in an OPENING PRESS CONFERENCE on Wednesday, January 22 at 11:45 a.m. in the 2nd Floor Foyer outside the Presidential Ballroom of the Capital Hilton.

While in Washington, the mayors will release economic data showing employment and economic growth projections for 2014 in all of the nation's 363 metropolitan areas. The mayors will also release a clean energy survey highlighting local action in more than 250 cities to advance innovative technologies that reduce energy use and consumption. Other issues topping the agenda include transportation and innovation, as well as the continued threat to tax exempt municipal bonds.

"I'm looking forward to sharing ideas and learning about best practices and strategies to improve the lives of everyday residents in Westland and throughout Wayne County," Wild said.

This will mark Mayor Wild's fourth meeting with President Barack Obama in the East Room of the White House.  He is also scheduled to participate in the USCM's Technology and Innovation Task Force
