ACADEMICS
Message from Principal Nancy Bradish
Welcome to the New Year! As 2016 begins, our first semester is drawing to a close. Semester finals are around the corner and the teachers and students are preparing.
For our freshmen, this is their first experience with semester finals. Studying for finals can seem to be a daunting task, but it does not need to be. Students should spend time reviewing the class material every day, instead of trying to cram the night before. This will allow a better transfer to long-term memory, and will enable the students to ask questions if they need clarification before the day of the exam. The students have been developing good study habits over the course of the semester which should prepare them for the exams.
The final exam schedule will begin on January 20. Please see the schedule below. It is important that our students are at school every day and on time every day. Please be sure your students have eaten breakfast and get plenty of rest.
We have had a very exciting and successful first semester, and my expectations are high for the second semester.

ADVANCEMENT
Staff Update
One of our favorite colleagues is leaving Kennedy Catholic to pursue another amazing opportunity. Karen Kranz has accepted a new job at the UW.
Her last day with us will be on Thursday, January 14.
Karen has been a wonderful contributor to our school and will be sorely missed.
The Marketing Manager position was posted over the break and we were lucky to find an applicant who comes with exceptional recommendations. We will welcome Lisa Bauder to our staff as Marketing Manager. Lisa has 10+ years of experience in marketing, advertising, public relations and web design/development. She holds a BA in Digital Art & Multimedia Design and a Minor in Marketing & Business Administration from La Salle University. She is thrilled and honored to be joining our team.
We are thankful to Karen for a job well done and to welcome Lisa to her new role at Kennedy Catholic.

ATHLETICS
Kennedy Catholic League Alignment for 2016
We are excited to announce that Kennedy Catholic athletics will compete in a new league beginning fall 2016. Since WIAA authorizes individual schools to form leagues based on mutual agreement, the school districts and individual schools listed below have agreed to the re-emergence of the North Puget Sound League (the NPSL was disbanded in 1990). This league will be separate and independent from the current 4A SPSL.
- Kent School District (4 schools)
- Federal Way School District (4 schools)
- Auburn School District (3 schools)
|
- Tahoma High School
- Mt. Rainier High School
- Kennedy Catholic High School
|
10 of the 14 schools forming the 4A NPSL are 3A by enrollment size but made the decision to play at the 4A level by
"OPTING UP" prior to the WIAA opt-up deadline of January 13. The advantages of this league formation include:
- Geographically close
- Less travel time/distance
- Less time out of class
- Keeps multiple district schools in the same league
- Maintains current rivalries
- Re-establishes lost rivalries
- Increased contest attendance and ticket gates
- Increased local community and spectator interest
- Increased access for schools to WCD #3 tournaments (9 of 14 teams advancing to 16 team tournaments)
Developing structure for this new league will begin immediately so we are prepared when the 2016 fall season begins. We are extremely excited to re-establish healthy rivalries and upcoming league competition with these NPSL 4A schools.

FINE AND PERFORMING ARTS
Theatre Arts
| Spring Musical, March 17-20 - Save the Date
Adapted from Hans Christian Andersen's story The Ugly Duckling, Honk! offers a message of patience and inclusion. The musical is set in the countryside and features Ugly - a cygnet who is mistaken as an ugly duckling upon falling into his mother's nest and is rejected by everyone but Ida (his mother), a sly tomcat who only befriends him out of hunger, and several other barnyard characters.
