On May 7th attendees will gather at the JMU's Festival Center for Tech Nite 14 to recognize and highlight the successes of technology firms, organizations and programs in the region and the entrepreneurs and innovators behind those successes. Tech Nite is the Shenandoah Valley Technology Council's annual gathering highlighting Valley technology achievement and innovation in 6 categories. We have 33 nominees for these prestigious awards. We will announce the winners live at Tech Nite.
The evening will start with a cocktail reception and appetizers. Followed by served dinner and keynote address by Virginia Secretary of Technology, Karen Jackson. Her topic will be "Technology Priorities In the Commonwealth." With dessert, we will recognize the nominees and announce the award winners. This is SVTC's biggest event of the year. This program (undergraduate Biotechnology B.S. program at James Madison University) is surely one of our finest and most innovative. If you've talked to any of the companies across the state which have hired young people from the program, you know how highly they speak of them. This administrators and teachers of this program deserve our praise and admiration, along with the students. The Biotechnology B.S. program is inter-disciplinary among three departments: Biology, Chemistry, and Integrated Science and Technology."

SVTC Board Elections
How does it work? Who's running?
The SVTC's Board of Directors has two groups for governance purposes, called classes. Each class serves a 2-year term ending with elections alternating so that there is always a mix of new and seasoned members on the board. The election of the class II of the SVTC Board of Directors is being conducted in May of this year, and again we are conducting the election electronically. We will send each member of the SVTC an email containing a link for voting (please note that each email and link is individually generated and can only be used once), using a company called SurveyMonkey. We will identify our members who are eligible to vote as of May 1st. (If you are not a member but would like to be, and would like to vote in the upcoming election, you will need to become one by then). Members should expect this email from SurveyMonkey around May 8, 2014. Each link will be active until May 21, 2014. Each member, whether individual or corporate, receives one vote per membership. On May 21st we will have our annual meeting and any SVTC member who did not vote electronically can then vote in person. Member News: Leadership Positions Announced at JMU
 
Dr. Jerry Benson, James Madison University provost and senior vice president of academic affairs, announced April 11 several additions to the James Madison University's academic leadership team. "It is important to have leadership throughout the university, but especially in the Academic Affairs division, that can be innovative visionaries and can facilitate the type of integrated, high-impact learning engagement we seek to achieve," Benson said. "I am extremely happy to announce that we have successfully completed three major academic leadership searches this year and look forward to working with these three talented individuals." Dr. Robert Kolvoord will immediately assume the position of dean of the College of Integrated Science and Engineering. Kolvoord has been serving as interim dean of the College of Integrated Science and Engineering since its founding. Kolvoord has been a faculty member in Integrated Science and Technology since 1995 and in this capacity served as a faculty leader in the development of innovative interdisciplinary and integrated academic programs including the original ISAT program, the intelligence analysis program and the engineering program. He holds a doctoral degree in theoretical and applied mechanics from Cornell University. Dr. Yvonne Harris will assume the role of vice provost for research and scholarship as of July 1, 2014. She currently serves as the associate vice president for research administration at Chicago State University in Illinois. Harris' experience brings a unique blend of demonstrated effectiveness and innovation in the integration of research with teaching and service and the administration of research and compliance activities. She holds a doctoral degree in biology, with emphases in molecular and cellular radiation biology, from Northern Illinois University. Dr. Sharon Lovell will immediately assume the position of dean of the College of Health and Behavioral Studies. Lovell has served at JMU as the interim dean of the College of Integrated Science and Technology and then interim dean of the newly formed College of Health and Behavioral Studies for the past 6 � years. The annual event (formerly the Engineering Symposium) has been redesigned and now includes a full day of student presentations, posters, and prototypes from capstone and research projects.
Mr. Zack Murter, JMU Inaugural Class of 2012, Performance Engineer at Volvo will be the special guest and keynote speaker!
