Dear Oaklanders,

Today my Office is releasing the Limited Public Financing Act (LPFA) Audit of the November 6, 2012 Election. The audit found that all of the candidates who ran for Oakland City Council district offices and obtained public financing received appropriate reimbursements and met key LPFA requirements. The audit also found that the Public Ethics Commission staff has implemented an effective process for administering and monitoring the LPFA program and ensuring compliance with LPFA requirements. SUBSTANTIATED INVESTIGATION REPORT

Today we are also releasing a substantiated investigation report concerning the theft of public funds from the Faade and Tenant Improvement Programs. Following a Fraud, Waste + Abuse Hotline tip, our investigation found that the grantee, La Bottega Italia LLC., submitted fraudulent documentation to the Community & Economic Development Agency to obtain almost $16,000 in excess of the grantee's proven expenses. The substantiated investigation report can be read here.
