Message from Ashana

 Sat nam Global Sadhana Family,

Last night, James' iPhone went completely dead. We took it to the Apple Store in hopes that they would at least be able to recover his data and contacts. No such luck. Due to some mysterious technological ailment, all of his pictures, notes, contacts, in short, everything on his phone for the last two years was rendered inaccessible. All they could do was shake their heads sadly and invite him to pick out a new phone. "What color? Silver, Black or Gold?"

Wow. All his pictures from the last two years of our life. Gone. All the text messages from me he had saved since the very first day we met. Gone. All the voicemails he had saved from all the times I had called to tell him how much I love him. Gone. All his passwords to get into all his cyberplaces. Gone. All his phone numbers and contacts. Gone. He hadn't backed up his phone so it was in the hands of the Apple Gods as to what, if anything, would turn up on the new phone. There was only one thing he could do ... Surrender and Let Go.

As we walked out of the store, we talked about how this could be a blessing. An opportunity to start off with a clean slate. "Now you have all this room on your phone for me to call you and leave you new messages!" I said. I thought about how much more I love him now than I did when we first met. And how much fun I would have leaving new messages that would hold that energy.

It's amazing to me that this happened during this sadhana. Cleaning the slate. Letting go of the past. Making room for new messages, new memories, new images, new ideas.

It's the Guru Ram Das upgrade!

Keep chanting,

Ashana

"Walking, I am listening to a deeper way.  Suddenly all my ancestors are behind me. Be still, they say.  Watch and listen.  You are the result of the love of thousands." ~Linda Hogan

Today's thoughtful message is from Susan in Ontario, Canada.  She tells a tale of reaching back through time to find the ancestor who needs her healing and blessings, and of turning into the ancestor that she longs to be for her future line. May all our hearts be healed, and may Annie's soul find perfect peace.

This is Annie Griffith.  She was my mother's grandmother and when I became the family archivist ten years ago and began to seek out ancestors and their stories, it was Annie who became the abiding interest of all my searching.  She was difficult to find - no record of birth, parents, siblings.  I found her in a Sherman, Texas marriage certificate, the birth record of one of her children - there were 10 in all, 5 who survived to adulthood, in stories told in family letters and in rumours that were passed by word-of-mouth down through the years.  I know she had a hard life.  Her husband died in 1906, leaving her with 3 young children to care for on her own in a tiny rented run-down house near the railroad tracks in Ft. Worth, Texas.  My grandmother, 16 at the time, had just married and was about to embark on a life of hardship herself with a difficult and troubled man.  Annie's two youngest children were sent to an orphanage where they apparently endured several years of hardship.  The other child was taken in by a more affluent family.  Some said Annie abandoned her little ones to give herself a chance at survival.  But, in all my searching over the years I've come to a different conclusion.  She did reconnect with the two youngest and managed to bring them home to live with her.  In 1917, by then legally blind, she died.  The death certificate said she died of 'senility' though she was not even 50 at the time.  I'm trying to write her story and to listen carefully enough to 'hear' her voice in the narrative.  Somehow, I believe she wants me to give her fragmented and patched-together story some depth and meaning; to infuse it with the laughter, longings, and happy memories that surely were there amongst the sad and hard times.  This beautiful 40-day sadhana has given me a priceless opportunity to send blessings to Annie and the others who endured those hardships alongside her.  As I now look forward to my 70th birthday in August and await the birth of my first two grandchildren - both of my daughters are pregnant - it is especially wonderful for me to envision myself as a 'future ancestor' sending blessings back to my children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  I am so blessed to take part in this beautiful meditation.

Mantra

Complete Mantra:
Guru Guru Wahe Guru, Guru Ram Das Guru

Language: Gurmukhi

Source: Dream with Guru Ram Das Ji

Author: Yogi Bhajan

Translation:
Guru - teacher or guide that brings one from the darkness to the light.
Wahe - exclamation of ecstacy like "WOW!"
Ram Das - literally translates as "God's Servant",
but also refers to Guru Ram Das, the Fourth Guru of the Sikhs

More Information:
This mantra was given to Yogi Bhajan by Guru Ram Das in His astral self. As Guru Ram Das, the fourth Guru of the Sikhs, was known for humility and healing abilities this mantra is also known for its healing qualities and for imparting humility to the one who chants it.

This mantra relates directly to healing and protective energy represented by Guru Ram Das. The mantra is comprised of two parts. The first part is a nirgun mantra (Guru Guru Wahe Guru). This projects the mind to the source of knowledge and ecstasy. The second part is a sirgun mantra (Guru Ram Das Guru). This means the wisdom that comes as a servant of the infinite. It is the mantra of humility. It reconnects the experience of the finite to infinity.
