Of city managers and mulch.
April is many things, least of which (at least in our county!) the cruelest month. First off, let's talk city management. Our Conversation at the Crocker this month on Tuesday April 8 (the last for the season) at 7pm in the Crocker Memorial Chrusch is Ken Thompson and the Making of Modern Sarasota.  Thompson was city manager for 38 years and had an incredible impact on our present-day city. Jeff LaHurd says: "As an important person in Sarasota's history I rank Ken Thompson with John Hamilton Gillespie, Owen Burns, Bertha Palmer and John Ringling."

Next, mulch. And Florida-friendly gardening and gardeners.
Spring Cleaning in the Garden Day on Saturday April 12, from 9 am until Noon. Come early, stay late or even come late leave early! Help weed, prune, relocate some plants and install others that members may wish to bring. The Garden is Florida-friendly which means we don't have to water very often and the plants do well with heat and sun. (Click here for what Florida-Friendly is all about!) Please bring tools and a few big trash bags. We'll have mulch to spread and make things look extra lovely for our May 10 annual meeting/potluck picnic. Wear a hat and sunscreen and see you on Saturday, April 12.

And let us not leave out our Fine Feathered Friends
Our last Class at the Park starts Tuesday April 8, and takes you on a wondrous journey through the lives and habitats of Gulf Coast Birds. To see if there's room left in this class, call Linda in the HSoSC office M-F, 10 to 2, 941-364-9076 or [email protected] any time.
