Workshop 11/18  9-11am
Business Continuation in the Face of a
Data Erasing

Is your business one of the 82%?

Let's face it... no one likes to think about bad things happening to them, much less planning for them. Disaster Recovery Planning is one of those "important, not urgent" action items that (unfortunately) get pushed to the back burner. Data-erasing disasters are not limited to natural disasters and include even cyber crime and human error. They can strike any size business at any time. When disaster strikes, a Disaster Recovery/Business Continuation Plan is key to being up and running quickly.

Recently Nationwide Insurance commissioned a survey of small businesses about Disaster Recovery Plans. Of small businesses with fewer than 50 employees, only 18% have a Disaster Recovery Plan! Are you in the 82% that doesn't have a plan?

Things to consider:
  • How fast could your business realistically be back up and running in the event of any natural or human disaster?
  • What is your tolerance for the IT network (including phones) being down?
  • What does downtime cost your business?
  • What backup, security and business continuity systems are currently in place?
In this Workshop:
Learn the 7 key components of a SIMPLE Business Continuity Plan and leave the workshop with the beginnings of an actionable plan.

Learn basic information on intellectual property

Saturday, 10:00a-12:30p November 14
Intellectual property litigation has sky rocketed in the past few years.   From patent trolls to copyright and trademark infringement, entrepreneurs need to understand the various ways to protect their business by researching intellectual property.  Protecting your business from infringing or being infringed is paramount to avoid costly litigation.

How can you protect your logo, creations, invention and ideas in the marketplace?  The Wright State University Libraries is again helping beginning inventors, small businesses, creators, and entrepreneurs learn the basics of protecting their ideas through various intellectual property (IP) options. This free on campus informational workshop will be held Saturday morning, November 14, 10:00am-12:30pm in Room 241 of the Paul Laurence Dunbar Library.

The presentation will cover copyrights, patents, trade secrets and trademarks.  You will learn what resources and researching tools are available on the internet, IP web sites, and the general requirements for applying for patent, copyright, or trademark protection.

Wright State University Libraries is a U.S. Patent and Trademark Resource Center receiving support from the  United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Seating for the free workshop is limited. Register online
