As parents, most of our instruction is reactive rather than proactive.  A situation will arise leading us to react in order to handle the situation and, hopefully, keep it from recurring.  It's not our preference; it's just the way this parenting life often goes.

However, there are some things in which we cannot afford to be reactive.  There are dangers, both subtle and overt, that seek to destroy our marriage, children and families.  In these cases, we must be on the offensive, standing at a strong watch over those under our care.

To this end, we would like to devote this issue of Family Connections to instructing couples and parents on how to navigate through our culture's sexually-murky waters.  In this edition, you will find articles on how to proactively approach the subject of human sexuality with the entire family from a biblical perspective.

May we be men and women, husbands and wives, mothers and fathers who wage this war on God's design for human sexuality faithfully and biblically.

On Marriage
Pursuing Sexual Purity in Your Marriage

God has designed human sexuality to be expressed and find fulfillment between a man and a woman within the boundaries of marriage.  However, our sin often creeps into this God-design and seeks to thwart His plan through acts of mental and physical impurity.

In the article found here, Randy Alcorn gives readers a few guidelines on how to keep all forms of sexual purity at the forefront of our marriages
For Parents
Talking About Sex and Puberty

The thought of having "the talk" has brought feelings of discomfort to many parents and kids alike.  In response to the dread of the impending awkwardness, many parents are left wandering what to say and when to say it in regards to this difficult yet important conversation.

Focus on the Family has posted the article found here that gives parents advice on how discussing God's design for human sexuality need not be so terrifying.

Help Your Kids Say "No" to Porn
"Everybody has seen it in some form."

This statement and others like it betray a mindset that has accepted viewing pornography as a common practice.  The problem with such thinking is that pornography has ceased to be seen as an attack on God's design for human sexuality and has grown to be accepted as a cultural norm or even a "right of passage" into adulthood.

Jen WIlkin has written a wonderful article found here that gives parents advice on how to safeguard your children from succumbing to this all-too-common temptation.
