The Russian greeting for Easter, as many know, is Christ is Risen. The answer is, Indeed He is Risen. We will shout this out, sing this out and greet each other daily until Pentecost. The Russian heart longs for the Risen Lord after so many years where this greeting could only be whispered for fear of arrest or some kind of persecution. Easter was Receiving Jesus
I love the story of one of our young parishioners who at 5 years old came to the church by herself. Every Sunday she would faithfully come and sit in the back pew for months. At communion time she would come up and get a blessing. Until one Sunday she came up and would not leave after I blessed her but looked rather perturbed. I had to say to Elita you have to go back to your seat. She left with a little huff that only a 7 year old could do. After Mass she came up to me hand on her hip and said to me, "Why you didn't give me Jesus? I wanted Jesus. Why didn't you give me him?"...read more

 For Russians, Mercy Sunday is a great celebration. The second Sunday of Easter is dedicated to receiving the mercy of Jesus. We begin the novena of Mercy on Good Friday and end it on Mercy Sunday with a huge party of mercy. We pray the chaplet and then celebrate together. This year we decided to renew our baptismal life in Christ . Through our faith and our baptism we can swim in the Mercy of Jesus. That is indeed what many parishioners did...read more.
