The care and concern your mother lavished on you played a big role in making you the person you are today. Wouldn't it be nice if all mothers and children could share that kind of nurturing love?

That’s the ultimate goal of the Bettie Brand Mothers’ Empowerment Fund, to provide women in need with a hand up, not a hand out, so they may live with independence and dignity.

In tribute to your own mother – or a beloved aunt, grandmother, wife, favorite teacher, or any special other whose unconditional love and guidance has helped make you the person you are today – please join us for "Of Mothers and Special Others," an elegant evening of cocktails, entertainment and empowerment, as well as an opportunity to meet some of the women whose lives have been changed forever with help from Bettie Brand Mothers’ Empowerment Fund.

Held at The Wimbish House, one of Atlanta’s few remaining historic mansions, "Of Mothers and Special Others" will feature:

  • Silent & Live auctions
  • Ambassador and Mrs. Andrew Young
  • Ann Stallard honored with the 2016 Daughter of Distinction award

About Bettie Brand, the inspiration of this fund

Bettie Brand didn’t always have an easy life. Widowed young with three young children, she was determined not only to keep a roof over their heads but also to provide a stable, loving home life, and she selflessly worked long hours, lived on a tight budget, and made smart investments in order to accomplish those goals. After retirement, she followed her dreams to California, earning a college degree summa cum laude in her late 60s. Her legacy of demonstrated self-sufficiency inspired her children to create The Bettie Brand Mothers’ Empowerment Fund to support and inspire other women as they face their own challenges.
