April 5: Auburn Valley Play Day |
After some much needed rain, we couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day on April 5th at Auburn Valley Golf Club. We had 28 ladies participate in our event. We started out with a Big Break competition that Karen Garcia set up for us. There were several stations set up to try our skills in short chips, long chips, bunkers, and wedge shots. Then, on to the putting green to test those skills with long putts, short putts, and how many you can make in a row.
The winner was Patricia Ickes. Second place went to Linda Reid. Both won rounds of golf at Auburn Valley for two, graciously donated by the course.
The game for this event was to beat the pro, Karen. Karen's gross score of 77 was the number to beat. There were four of our members who were up to this task: Karen Biscaha, Belinda Kindle, Janet Cino, and Lynda Lapp all had net 77 or lower. They each won a decorative crystal sleeve of balls. |
 Thanks to everyone for their donations and for shopping at the Trunk Sale on April 6 - we raised over $1,600 for The First Tee! Linda still has racks of clothes, so send her a note if you want to stop by and check it out: [email protected]. Everything is $10 and all proceeds go to The First Tee of Greater Sacramento. But ... don't wait!! ... it will all be donated after 4/18!!!

We've all seen and heard about Empower 2014 - EWGA's National Conference. It was held in San Antonio, TX on April 6-8. Tyra Jarvis and Cindy Roeser were able to attend and sent back some great pictures for us, including this one with Kathy Whitworth - LPGA Hall of Famer!!!!

You missed out on a GREAT Rules Clinic if you weren't at Haggin on Tuesday, April 8! John Nakamura, past NCGA President and Tournament Official, went over the rules of match play and the differences between stroke and match play. It was a great chance to brush up on the basics and to pick up lots of new information! John is an excellent teacher, so be sure to sign up for one of the other Rules Clinics that he will be teaching for us this spring (April 29 and May 13)!

Monday Night Fun Play
A Special Event at Woodcreek Golf Club on April 14 and April 28
Our "Monday Night 9 Hole Fun Play" will be at Woodcreek Golf Club instead of Sierra Pines on these dates. We are excited to offer a Yoga for Golfers Class at 3:00 p.m. The class is being taught by Marilyn Herbert, LPGA Professional. No prior yoga experience is necessary. Just bring a mat (or blanket) and a golf club! The cost is $10 and payable at the class. You will benefit from exercises that slowly, gently and effectively move your body toward greater strength and flexibility. The instructor will be available to join you on the range and help with swing changes. This class is a great way to warm up!
Our tee time is 4:30 p.m. for those of you who only want to golf. Pay at the course - $15 to walk and $20 to ride. After golf, you are welcome to join us in the Legends Bar and Grill for a special happy hour menu.

We still need help at the EWGA booth at the Haggin Oaks GOlf Expo (Friday April 25-Sunday April 27). In particular, we need help on Sunday, April 27th, but if Sunday doesn't work for you, there are plenty of shifts open on Friday and Saturday! Our Chapter Championship will be on Saturday, June 7 at Bing Maloney Golf Complex. As long as your handicap is 40.4 or less, you should pan on playing!! And if you don't want to play in the stroke part of the tournament, start putting together a 4-lady scramble team!
