 The complexity of water
On November 21, SAI hosted a roundtable meeting to convene experts on water issues from the Boston area. With an issue as complex as water, SAI hopes to coordinate future conferences and workshops to identify a common intellectual language about water.
 
Tackling gender violence, digitally
On November 25, SAI hosted a webinar about gender violence in South Asia. The interactive discussion featured sites across Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh. SAI utilized social media to take questions and monitor the discussion online.

South Asian music, food, and dance 
Join SAI for our annual Holiday Party on December 2nd at 5:00 pm. We will have delicious South Asian food, and performances by acapella group Harvard Mirch and bhangra group Harvard Brown Sugar. 

 

 

 

The social predicament of an artisan caste
In 'Na Hindu, Na Musalman: The Dilemma of a Bengali Artisan Caste,' Frank Korom, of Boston University, along with moderator Ali Asani of Harvard University will address the the social predicament of a low-caste community of narrative scroll painters in West Bengal known as Patuas. December 4, 4:00 pm.

 

Lotus Maze: Migrant workers in Delhi
'Chakravyuh (Lotus Maze): Travails, Entanglements, and Visions of Migrant Workers in Delhi'  with Shankar Ramaswami, SAI South Asian Studies Postdoctoral Fellow. The presentation invokes the image of the chakravyuh (lotus maze) to understand workers' entanglements. Chaired by  Parimal G. Patil, Harvard University. December 5, 4:00 pm.
 
 
Nuclear power rising in India
In ' The Power of Promise: Examining the Feasibility of A Rapid Expansion of Nuclear Energy in India,' M.V. Ramana of the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs Princeton University will make a historically nuanced and compelling argument as to why the nuclear energy program in India has failed and why its future is dubious. Chaired by Matthew Bunn, Harvard Kennedy School. December 6, 2:00 pm.
