ONE DAY WATERING RESUMES NOVEMBER 1

Under the City of Pasadena Level 2 Water Shortage Plan, outdoor watering is restricted to one day per week, on Saturdays only, effective November 1 to March 31. With the anticipation of El Nino causing a wetter winter, remember not to water during and 48 hours after rain. And don't forget, no outdoor watering between 9am and 6pm. Pasadena needs your help to get to 28% reduction by February 2016 or will face fines up to $10,000 a day from the State Water Resources Control Board.  To learn more, click here.
PASADENA ACHIEVES CLASS 1 FIRE RATING

The Pasadena Fire Department recently achieved a Class 1 Public Protection Classification rating from the Insurance Services Office (ISO). The prestigious Class 1 rating is the highest possible score that can be given to a fire department and can lead to a reduction in residential and commercial fire insurance premiums*.

As part of the assessment, the ISO measures the fire suppression efforts, the City's Communications Center, Fire Prevention and Community Risk Reduction efforts, as well as the Water Department. In fact, the "Water Supply" category accounts for 40% of the overall rating, and Pasadena Water and Power scored 38.57 out of 40 possible points! To learn more, click here.

THE EFFECTS OF AIR BUBBLES

Did you know that air bubbles can cause your tap water to look cloudy? The amount of air bubbles in PWP's water is higher than normal because the local water table is lower than normal. With lower water tables, PWP's wells draw more air into the water when it is pumped out. When this water is delivered to customers' taps, it often comes out appearing cloudy, milky, or white. This water will clear in a few moments if allowed to settle. But rest assured, there is no cause for concern about the health impacts of cloudy water. To learn more, click here.

METER REPLACEMENTS

In the coming months, PWP plans to update nearly one fourth of its residential water meters. For the majority of homeowners, service will not be interrupted as crews will be able to update the equipment without interruption. In the event service will need to be impacted for a brief period, crews will notify the household before any work is performed. If no one is available and crews detect usage on the meter, a door hanger will be placed to set up a future  appointment.
PWP plans to complete this project with the help of a company named Concord Services. Concord's utility vehicles will have magnetic vehicle signs that read: Working on behalf of Pasadena Water and Power. To learn more, click here.
