Take a Turkey Walk on the Wild Side at ECLP
The wild turkey's distinctive feathers and "gobble, gobble" sounds made it Benjamin Franklin's choice to be our national bird. Learn to appreciate what Franklin saw in the
native bird with a Turkey Walk at
Ellanor C. Lawrence Park  on November 28, 2015 at 10 a.m.

Walk off some of your Thanksgiving turkey with a hike through the park's cedar forest and discover the wild turkey's habits and secret ways. Stay alert to see if you can spot a wild turkey or the signs they leave behind.
This program is designed for those ages three to adult. The cost is $5 per person.

Honoring a Special Hero
A beautiful Veterans Day served as the perfect backdrop for the ribbon cutting for the new state-of-the-art synthetic field at the Lt. Col. Gary F. Smith Memorial Field at Grist Mill Park in Alexandria, VA.

Although he wore a uniform and carried himself with military bearing, he was not intimidating to the young women he coached in soccer at parks in Fairfax County.

Family, friends, former players and local officials gathered together to remember Retired Lt. Col. Gary F. Smith, United States Army. A field naming ceremony took place in April 2012 at rectangular field #5 at Grist Mill Park in the Mt. Vernon District. The ceremonial opening was celebrated in November 2015.
