A Message from AFA's
Deputy Director, Educational Services
The holidays are a special time of the year to cherish time with friends and family, reflect upon the good things in our lives, and look forward to the year ahead. For those living with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias and their families, however, the holidays can also be challenging. Feelings of sadness about how the condition has changed a loved one or family dynamics, concern about ensuring a loved one is safe and well during holiday gatherings, and anxiety about maintaining daily routines are common emotions.

In order to help the individuals and families with whom you work have an enjoyable holiday season, check out DCPA's newest training video (see "DCPA Happenings" for more information) to strengthen your communication skills and develop strategies for working effectively with families. Be sure to also take a look at AFA's  caregiving tips for the holidays and reach out to our social work team for support through our bilingual (English/Spanish) toll-free helpline: 866-232-8484 (M-F, 9am-9pm ET).

On behalf of DCPA, thank you for your dedication to serving others and commitment to providing compassionate, person-centered dementia care. We wish you all the best  for a restful, healthy, and joyous holiday season and a Happy New Year!

In health,

Kristen Cribbs, MPH
Deputy Director, Educational Services
