Blessing the Torah with our Children on Rosh Hashanah

Please Participate With TBC Members in a
Reunion of
Czech  Holocaust Torah Scrolls!

In 1968, the Westminster Synagogue in London took possession of 1,564 Torah scrolls from the government of Czechoslovakia.  None of the communities who had cherished these Torahs survived the Holocaust, and Westminster Synagogue determined to restore and find homes for their Torahs. Over the years, over 75 of these Torah scrolls have been distributed to communities in New England, including our Temple B'nai Chaim in 1978.  Our Czech Torah has taken a long path to Georgetown since it was first written in 1832, and now this scroll is an important part of our b'nai mitzvah program and other traditions, and ties us to a deeply meaningful past.

On Sunday morning, October 4th 2015 , Temple Sinai in Sharon, MA will hold a special service to mark the completion of their year-long restoration of their Czech Torah scroll.  To celebrate this milestone, Temple Sinai has invited every New England congregation with a Czech Torah to bring their scrolls to a special reunion.  This should be a truly meaningful event and it would be wonderful if several of us would like to participate.  If you are interested in accompanying our Czech Torah and other TBC members to this once in a lifetime experience, please contact Tom Dubin [email protected] ) or Pam Klem ( [email protected] ).

Movie: Price for Freedom - September 30 (7:00 pm)

The Prospector Theater |  (203) 438-0136 | 25 Prospect Street, Ridgefield CT

"Price for Freedom", is a new motion picture starring Paul Sorvino ("Nixon", "Goodfellas", "The Firm"), Navid Negahban ("Homeland", "American Sniper"), Academy Award nominee Sally Kirkland and Mandy Bruno ("Guiding Light").   "Price For Freedom" is based on the book written in 2013 by prominent NYC dental implant surgeon Dr. Marc Benhuri.  It is a chilling account of how members of his family were terrorized, tortured, and murdered in Iran when Ayatollah Khomeni seized power in 1979. Cast members Robert Vaughn and Robert Clohessy are expected to attend together with special guests.  Click here for more information!
Save the Date for Stop Hunger Now

Save the date! On Saturday, October 24, TBC will be participating as a congregation in the 5th annual Stop Hunger Now packaging event in Wilton. Last year we packaged over 160,000 meals that were sent to Haiti. TBC was well represented by about 90 volunteers.

Our goal is to package over 160,000 meals this year and raise $3500 as a Congregation that will fund 12,000 meals which will be sent to hungry children in developing countries. If you would like to support this event, you can send a check to TBC and note that it is for Stop Hunger Now. This year each meal costs $0.29 (an increase of 4 cents/meal) so $1.45 buys 5 meals, $15 buys 52 meals and $100 buys 345 meals -- still a really good deal.

The sign-up will be later in September and further details will be provided soon. Don't forget that children 5 and older can help (our 5-year-olds last year had a fantastic time and really contributed!). If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Don Weber at [email protected].  If you would like to support this event, you can send a check to TBC and note that it is for Stop Hunger Now; or contribute using our online donation form and select "Stop Hunger Now/Tzedakah Fund."
