Attendance is very important in order for our students to keep up with the instruction in the classroom. I appreciate all of your efforts to make sure that your children have regular attendance and arrive at school on time. Our bell rings at 8:45 a.m. and students are counted 1/2 day absent if they arrive after 9:45 a.m. If your child is going to be absent for any reason, please call the front office (722-0427) to inform us of the nature of the absence. We will make contact with a parent if we have not received a call. Any absence that is not verified will be counted as UNEXCUSED.

With the weather turning cold please be sure your child is dressed appropriately for the day. District guidelines state that outdoor recess will be held unless precipitation is falling or the wind chill is below 19 degrees.

Parents, please park in a marked parking space when picking up your children in our north parking lot at the end of the day. We would prefer that the parents of younger children walk up to the north doors to pick-up their kids personally. If we all follow the same expectations, traffic seems to move efficiently, and students are supervised by an adult all the way to their vehicle. With cooler temperatures settling in, students will be taken to the office to wait for parents who do not arrive promptly to come in and sign them out for the day.  Thank you!

We will host our annual Polar Express Night on Friday, December 11th.  Plan on joining us for some holiday fun!

PTO PARTNERSHIP

The PTO is exploring a variety of ways to support MCE this school year.  How can you help? We are looking for some businesses, big or small, that would like to be a part of a network we can reach out to for help with fundraising.  Maybe you can donate a product for a giveaway or help give to a specific project.  Our goal is to use our MCE family to support the teachers and school while providing you with free advertising.  If you would like to have your name and business on this list,  please contact Sara Froese at  [email protected]  for more information.

A NOTE FROM NURSE LONI . . .

24 hour lice line
Heartland Healthy Heads

What you need to know about head lice.

According to KDHE, students infested with head lice should stay home from school until they have been treated with an antiparasitic medicine. Students do not have to be nit free before returning to school.

Lice cannot hop or fly. They move by crawling and are spread most commonly by close person-to-person contact.

Super lice is simply lice that is resistant to common over-the-counter medication ingredients (pyrethroids). Prescription medication is recommended to treat super lice.

After treatment with a medication, you should use a fine-tooth comb and hand-pick nits out of the child's hair. Wash hats, scarves, pillow cases, bedding, clothing, and towels using the hot water and hot air cycles to kill lice and eggs. Items that cannot be washed can be sealed in a plastic bag for 2 weeks.

CLOTHING NEEDED

Our office is in great need of boys and girls pants to help when accidents happen.  If  you have any smaller sizes, and would like to donate them, we would greatly appreciate it!
Also, please launder and return clothing that has been borrowed from the nurse's office.

Thank you, Nurse Loni

PULL TABS
FOR
RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE

Parents of MCE-

Collecting pull tabs for the Ronald McDonald House has become a tradition over the past 3 years. Our building has filled vans full of pull tabs to support Ronald McDonald House!! We have even taken the top prize as a school for collecting! We would love to keep up the hard work this year and see how many pounds of pull tabs we can collect.

Remember these tabs can come off of pop cans, soup cans, energy drinks, vegetable cans, or wherever you see the pull  tabs. We will weigh tabs by classroom each month on the first Friday of the month. Yes, this is a classroom competition! Ask relatives, friends, or even set up a collection point at your job to help us collect as many pounds of pull tabs as we can! Every little bit counts!

Thank you for helping show our kids what it means to give back!

Sincerely,
Your Pull Tab Crew
