Scarf Project:

Raising Awareness Against Bullying

PNEC would like to continue the UCC Project of Raising Awareness Against Bullying by creating scarves.  We are committed to protect our youth who are taunted and bullied. It will work this way:

- Create a Scarf: It may be 4-6 inches wide and up to 60 inches  long; any color.

- Bring the scarves to the Annual Meeting or to the Conference Office prior to the Annual Meeting.

- The scarves will be blessed during the Annual Meeting and then given to anyone who pledges to protect our youth against bullying.

  FUND DRIVE FOR FIRE VICTIMS

Christ UCC in Bath is requesting help for the Briele family (8 of them plus 2 dogs and a now missing cat) who have lost their home and all their possessions in a fire that took place on 3/3/14. The Brieles are members of Christ UCC church Bath.  If you are able/willing to help or donate in any way, please contact the church at 610-837-0345.

As our thoughts and Prayers are with our neighbors, The Briele Family, Please keep in mind this family has lost everything! The children, as are the parents, devastated and in shock!

This family is in desparate need of a place to live within the Northampton Area School District.  If you know of any place that is available, please be in touch with the church.

All funds should be sent to Christ UCC, 109 S. Chestnut St., Bath, PA  18014. They will then be given to the family to help in any way needed; clothing, food, rent, other necessities, etc. Clothing items are currently being accepted and donated to the family. The church will be the drop off point for clothing, household goods, etc. Please call the church before dropping off items to make sure there is someone there to accept them. Gift cards are always helpful as well.  The husband/father is a carpenter and all of his tools were destroyed in the fire.  Gift cards for Home Depot, Lowes, etc. would be helfpul in replacing some of the tools.

They are going to need household items as well in the fairly near future as soon as housing arrangements have been made. There is a Facebook page set up that you can also join and follow to keep on track with what the family needs: Briele Family Fire Emergency. Should you have any further questions or ways to help, please do not hesitate to contact the church at 610-837-0345. Thank you!

 OUTDOOR MINISTRIES

Did you know that Hartman Center is becoming a Regional Camp and Conference Center?  Three years ago, the Christian Church (Disciples) closed their eastern camp.  Last summer Hartman Center became their camp of choice.  Since Mensch Mill is currently shuttered, we are happy to welcome our brothers and sisters from Pennsylvania Southeast and Penn Northeast.  We have become ACA (American Camp Association) accredited.  Spread the good news about Hartman Center.  Let your community as well as your church know we exist.  Camps begin the week of June 15 with at least five different camp offerings each week.  The final week of camp is July 27-August 2.  For more information go to www.hartmancenter.com

Phoebe Richland to Hold Groundbreaking for New Personal Care Facility

April 24, at 1PM  Phoebe Richland will break ground on a dramatic new addition to the campus: a personal care facility featuring 72 studio and one bedroom apartments, and four semi-private rooms. Personal care communities, similar to assisted living, provide support for activities such as bathing, dressing and taking medication. They can also assist with meal preparation or housekeeping.

Located at 108, South Main Street in Richlandtown, Phoebe Richland is only minutes away from Center Valley's Promenade Shops in an area ready for growth and development. Although this region is well-populated, there are few local personal care and memory support care options in the Upper Bucks region. This project will afford many local seniors an opportunity for innovative care and services close to home.

Designed as an addition to the current Phoebe Richland campus, the new 75,000 square foot, two story building will be situated to the south of The Cottage, Phoebe Richland's memory support neighborhood, and will have a connection to the Health Care Center. It will feature four neighborhoods, two on each story. Amenities will include a multipurpose room, chapel, rehab gym, second story patios, salon and caf area. Stained glass windows from the recently-sold Conference Center of the United Church of Christ Penn Southeast Conference will grace the new chapel on the first floor overlooking a small reflecting pool.

"Our goal is to create a very unique living environment for members of the local community who are in need of personal care," says Lisa Fichera, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Phoebe Ministries. Tracy Roman, Executive Director of Phoebe Richland adds, "We are excited for this expansion because we receive inquiries from members of the local community weekly who are in need of services and the expansion allows us to meet the requests of these community members."

Enhancement of the Health Care Center

In addition to Phoebe Richland's service expansion, renovations to the existing health care center will also take place to improve the quality of life for our current residents.

A new central kitchen will serve all of the residents on campus, replacing the existing main kitchen on Gateway in the Health Care Center. Eleven skilled nursing beds will be brought back into service in the Health Care Center. Additionally, the current caf area will be converted into a multi-purpose room for residents and families. The existing central kitchen will be converted into office and conference space with an employee break room. Renovations will also add an additional dining room using current conference room space.

The Gateway short term rehabilitation wing will also receive enhancements, including remodeling of the dining and living room areas. Three additional short term rehabilitation beds will be added to expand services. A small addition is planned off the main Health Care Center lobby to serve as central office space for employees.
