When I was in my mid-thirties, I wanted to become a certified SCUBA diver like my aquatic, raised-on-the-coast husband. There were only two problems-I was a poor swimmer and I was afraid to swim in deep water. With unstoppable resolve and humility I enrolled in a summer
swimming class at a local university with mostly 19 year-old students!
Each time I painstakingly practiced my strokes in the Olympic- size pool, I tensed with fear over the 12 foot deep section. One day toward the end of the course, we learned how to survival float. Ah.... I discovered this was super easy. "Delores," Sheila, my swim coach, remarked, "you're a natural floater." What a revelation! I started relaxing and enjoying myself as I swam over the deep area of the pool. My confidence soared just knowing I could not sink. I passed the swim class and qualified to take the SCUBA course.
How many times in life do we worry about sinking in the depths of overwhelmingly bleak circumstances? We cry out the words of Psalm 69:1: "Save me, O God, for the waters have come up to my neck." Then Jesus, our life Coach, comes and says, "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers they will not sweep over you" (Isaiah 43:1, 2).
Remember, dear ladies, God loves you immeasurably and will demonstrate his goodness and mercy by delivering you. Our trustworthy God makes you a natural floater, or better still, a "supernatural" floater! With God by your side, it's impossible for you to sink!
