Author Tim Dorsey Returns
Bestselling author Tim Dorsey returns to three area libraries on October 6:
Panama City Beach Public Library @ 1 p.m.
Corinne Costin Gibson Memorial Public Library in Port St. Joe @ 5:30 p.m. ET
Bay County Public Library @ 7 p.m.
Dorsey is an American novelist, frequently compared to Dave Barry and Carl Hiaasen. Dorsey's books are hilarious crime capers.
All of Dorsey's eighteen novels feature Serge A. Storms as the primary character. Serge has several coexisting mental illnesses that render him obsessive, psychopathic, schizophrenic, and frequently homicidal, but Serge serves as the anti-hero in Dorsey's works due to his strong sense of moral absolutism and justice. Serge is intelligent, and frequently devises wildly inventive ways of condemning villains (or at least those he perceives as such) to death. His co-pilot in his adventures is Coleman, who is the exact opposite of Serge.
In this latest novel,
Shark Skin Suite, "the Sunshine State's favorite psychotic killer and lovable Floridaphile Serge Storms has found a new calling, legal eagle, and he's going to make a killing as a crusading attorney -- and star as a dashing lawyer on the big screen -- in this madcap escapade." [From the publisher]
Dorsey will have books and other Serge-related items available for purchase.

Meteorologist Tyler Allender Joins Library for Hurricane Opal 20th Anniversary
The Bay County Public Library will mark the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Opal on October 3 at 11 a.m. with a special presentation by WJHG Meteorologist Tyler Allender.
Hurricane Opal formed in the Gulf of Mexico in September 1995. Opal crossed the Yucatan Peninsula while still a tropical depression on September 27, then strengthened as it headed northward in the Gulf. It became a strong Category 4 hurricane before making a second landfall as a Category 3 storm on October 4 in the Florida Panhandle. Sustained winds were 115 mph. Opal devastated the Panhandle area with an 8 to 15 foot storm surge, and traveled up the entire state of Alabama, finally becoming a tropical storm in Tennessee. There were 9 fatalities reported in the mainland United States, including one local fatality in Crestview, FL due to an F2 tornado. Insured property damage was estimated to have cost $2.1 billion.
Throughout the month of October, aerial photos of the damage will be on display at the library.

Art and Craft on October 20 from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m.

The Art Forger by Barbara Shapiro.
Refreshments are provided by the Friends of the Bay County Public Library. The event is free and open to the public.
Art and Craft by Sam Cullman and Jennifer Grausman: In this film, Mark Landis is one of the most prolific art forgers of the modern era -- and he isn't in it for the money. In the last 30 years, he's copied hundreds of pieces, from 15th-century icons to works by Picasso and even Dr. Seuss, then donated them to museums across the country. When a tenacious registrar discovers the ruse, Landis must confront his legacy and a chorus of duped professionals intent on stopping him. But Landis is a diagnosed schizophrenic, driven since his teens to escape "the life of a mental patient," and ending the con isn't so simple.
The Art Forger by Barbara Shapiro: Almost twenty-five years after the infamous art heist at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum -- still the largest unsolved art theft in history -- one of the stolen Degas paintings is delivered to the Boston studio of a young artist. Claire Roth has entered into a Faustian bargain with a powerful gallery owner by agreeing to forge the Degas in exchange for a one-woman show in his renowned gallery. But as she begins her work, she starts to suspect that this long-missing masterpiece -- the very one that had been hanging at the Gardner for one hundred years -- may itself be a forgery.
