Reading is Crucial

Reading to children at an early age is crucial to the development of their language skills.  Take time to make the most of reading time with your child.

Read to your young children early and frequently . It is never too  early  to start reading to children and that is why the Imagination Library begins at birth! 
 
Reading with babies and young children helps them in many ways, including how many words they know, how they talk and how they learn to read. Research finds that reading to your child often helps to ensure that they will be successful in school and in life. Parents should read to children almost  every day .

Do a Picture Walk.  
Page through the book looking at the pictures and talk about what might be happening in the story.  This is helpful when your child is not focusing enough to read each word in the book.  
Free Imagination Library  Audio Books

Audio books can be a great  new way to enjoy the Imagination Library! While they have traditionally been used to help second-language learners, non-readers, or sight-impaired students, audio books have numerous benefits for  all  children. Here are just a few ways listening to quality audio books can  benefit your child :
  • Model good interpretive reading
  • Teach critical listening
  • Introduce new vocabulary or difficult proper names
  • Provide a read-aloud model
  • Recapture the delight of hearing stories beautifully told by talented storytellers

 book read aloud on YouTube.  Here's a great channel with many Imagination Library books to get you started!

READING TIP OF THE MONTH

Involve your children in the story. Allow them to turn the pages, ask them to point out specific letters (such as the letter their name begins with), and relate the story to your child's life so they make connections.
