A Historic Oklahoma City Amphitheater Gains a New Name & Touring Performers in October.

October 5, 2015 (Oklahoma City, OK) - The historic "Crown Jewel Amphitheater" is only getting better with age as it is scheduled to host two performance dates this October.  Built 1947, and recently restored over the past year by Harding Fine Arts Academy volunteers, the previously known Edgemere Amphitheater is bringing on a new name and fresh batch of performances.

"With the neighborhood just north of 36th street being Crown Heights, I thought incorporating 'Crown' in the name--coupled with 'Jewel' from the Jewel Box Theater group--would help associate the Amphitheater with the neighborhood and church property," said Jim Moody, founder of 79th Street Sound Stage and one of the amphitheater show curators.  Moody, along with Jennifer Maynord of Cellar Door Music Group, have been brought on by First Christian Church to coordinate music within the amphitheater.  Moody serves as an overall sponsor for the venue and is bringing in national & regional acts, while Cellar Door Music organizes the local music events being held on the first Wednesday of each month through November.

79th Street Sound Stage Productions first events will be this month starting with, Mike Farris will grace the Crown Jewel stage on Sunday, October 18th.  Farris won an Americana Music Award for Best New & Emerging Artist, a Dove Award for Best Traditional Gospel Album of the Year and a 2015 GRAMMY® award for Best Roots Gospel Album.  He was also a featured performer in 2011 at The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 16th Annual American Masters concert honoring Aretha Franklin along side such acts as Lauryn Hill, Chaka Khan, Cissy Houston, and Ronald Isley.

Sunday, October 25th the amphitheater will feature the quirky-humored, Western-based group, Riders In The Sky.  The Riders have had a long history of musical success, including inductions into the Grand Ol' Opry, the Western Music Association's Hall of Fame, the Country Music Foundation's Walkway of Stars, and the Walk of Western Stars.  They have also had two Grammy wins and are nationally recognized on many platforms. The Riders In The Sky recently acquired the rights to Roy Rogers film and music and are touring this fall performing a tribute to Roy Rogers The King of the Cowboys which is a 90 minute Multi-media romp featuring audience favorites "Pecos Bill" "Happy Trails" and "Don't Fence Me In" Film clips of Roy's greatest moments on screen with Trigger, Dale Evans and the Sons of the Pioneers.

"I had the opportunity to utilize the restored Amphitheater, and these kinds of family friendly shows seemed to be a perfect fit," concluded Moody, presenter of both Sunday night shows.
