Right after I sent my last email, my friend Kristy who runs the computer lab at Goodwill in Pekin generously offered her space to me.  I'm doing my last few sessions this week but we plan to do more later.  So some of my events are back on!  Kristy has a great workshop area so we can do more computer training.  She also provides training for people free of charge. Keep an eye on my events page to see what's coming up. Of course, if you have space and want me to come by to do a presentation, let me know!

Chris, the "tech" side of Web Tech purchased inventory from a computer store that went out of business.  So, Web Tech has increased their inventory by 500% (estimated). 

We are still going through what we have but stop down and check out the store if you need parts or just want to browse around.  Not only do we have the usual hard drives, cables and jump drives but we have some fun items for the holidays too like remote controlled cars and phone headsets.   

Hosting is parking your website on the internet.  As you probably know, I provide that service to my clients.  I spoke to another web design company over the weekend who calls it a "retainer".  They charge well over $150 per month to host the site and do minor updates.  I do the exact same service for $30 a month.  (Shop around!) 

Whatever you call it, it does need to be done.  Management of your website is important to keep malware away and also have a daily back up to be safe.

Data loss resulting from hacking, hosting problems, and simple employee errors can all kill your website in a matter of seconds.  This is exactly why we do daily back ups.  I've accessed those back ups more than a few times for clients with disgruntled employees or mistakes by interns. 
 

For those of you who want your social media to be effective, we can manage your accounts for you.  In the past we only managed Facebook Business pages but we can now add your Google+ page!

Why Google+?  85% of the time, people will search locally when looking for services on Google.  For instance, "Italian food Peoria" These Google + pages come up first when a city is added to your search criteria, then websites are listed under the local pages.  Adding to these pages consistently brings them to the top of the search.
