Community Thanksgiving Service

Christian County Ministerial Association is sponsoring a community Thanksgiving service on Tuesday, November 24, at 7:00 pm at First Methodist Church.  All are welcome.  Please join us!
Ann Jones in recital at Grace

We are pleased that Ann Jones will be performing a vocal recital at Grace on Sunday, November 22, at 6:00 pm.  "From the age of eight Ann Jones has been singing in public--both folk and classical pieces, mostly in the music festivals of her native Nova Scotia.  A recipient of academic and vocal scholarships at Dalhousie University and Banff School of Fine Arts, she holds BA and BMusED degrees and taught school for two years in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.  She has sung with Carlos Opera and London Opera South as well as the operas of Oldenburg and Wiesbaden, Germany.  Since moving to Hopkinsville in the mid-eighties, Ann has had the opportunity to sing with many ensembles, Oratorio productions, Madrigal Singers, Pennyroyal Academy, Town and Gown Chorale, and numerous churches."  She was previously a member of the Grace Church choir.  This promises to be a wonderful event.
Report on Diocesan Convention

The 188th Annual Convention of the Diocese of Kentucky was held November 13 and 14 at Calvary Episcopal Church in Louisville.  GraceWorks had a splendid booth and successful pre-Christmas sale, and Benjamin and Alice led a workshop on the development of GraceWorks at Grace.  Much enthusiasm was expressed about what GraceWorks has accomplished thus far and about the feasibility of replicating such a ministry in other locations. Many thanks to all those who worked the booth!--Pam and Joe Vance, Polly Stokes, Susan Ferguson, and Joyce Cornett.  Another highlight of the Convention for Grace is that our own Mark Richard was elected a Trustee of the University of the South at Sewanee!  Congratulations, Mark!  Other happenings at the Convention included the Bishop's being named a Kentucky Colonel on the occasion of his fifth anniversary as Bishop of Kentucky, the retirement of Rob Beard as Chancellor of the Diocese and the naming of Hamp Moore to assume that role, and the passage of a canonical change which would reduce the amount that churches contribute to the Diocesan budget and gradually bring all churches into compliance.  Thanks to Joyce Cornett and Mark Richard for representing Grace as lay deputees.
Holiday Open House at Alice's House

All are warmly invited to come to an Open House on Sunday, December 6, between 12:00 noon and 2:00 pm at Alice's home at 2250 South Main Street. Come and enjoy some refreshments and fellowship and holiday cheer!
Choral Evensong and Sung Compline

On Sunday, November 29, at 6:00 pm, we will have a service of Choral Evensong for Advent.  If you have never experienced Choral Evensong, this is a not-to-be missed service!  It is considered to be a jewel of Anglican liturgy and is a frequent offering at many cathedrals and large churches in the UK. The following Sundays, December 6, 13, and 20, at 6:00 pm, we will have sung services of Compline in the chancel of the church.  This will be something new for us, so be adventurous and join us!
Do your Christmas shopping at Grace!

We will have a display of GraceWorks items available for your shopping enjoyment beginning next Sunday, November 22.  If you haven't seen them before, you will be more than pleased with their quality.  Also, send GraceWorks Christmas cards this year--a good way of letting the world know about our ministry!
Your Stuff?  Are you missing any plates, containers, etc? Maybe you brought some food to Grace sometime recently and didn't take your container home.  There is an assortment of items on display at the kitchen window.  Thanks!
Report on the Italian Dinner and Annual Fund Campaign

Sunday evening, November 8, was a great time to be together at Grace. The food was fabulous, and the reports on various ministries and activities at Grace helped us "Ignite the Spirit" for our Annual Fund Campaign.  Thanks to all who helped this event be a huge success.  Two days later, a narrative budget, a letter from the Rector, and a pledge card were mailed out to the congregation.  We will have a blessing of pledge cards on Advent I, Sunday, November 29, so please return your cards before then or bring them that day.  Thank you so much for your generosity.
Glass Recycling

Even though we now have a recycling center next door to the church, through the generosity of Carson Stone, we are continuing to recycle glass in Nashville.  The receptacle has been moved across E. 5th St. behind the Red House.  This will hopefully discourage others from using it as a trash can. Keep bringing your glass so it can be properly recycled.
Kroger R e-Registration

It has been brought to our attention that we must each re-register our Kroger cards in order for the kindergarten to receive the benefit from them.  This is easily done online.  Simply log onto
www.kroger.com/communityrewards  and search for Grace Church Kindergarten or enter 88636 and link your card to our school.  (I just updated mine, and it took about 10 seconds! Alice)

Thanks for your help and your support of our ministry to the children and their families.
Pilgrimage to Bolivia

Mark Richard is leading a pilgrimage to the Amistad Mission in Bolivia in early 2016.  Please consider making this trip-of-a-lifetime.  Amistad, which is supported by a number of churches in the United States, provides a loving home to abandoned, abused, and orphaned children. There will be an informational meeting soon with more details, but, don't hesitate to contact Mark with your questions.  (Update: The pilgrimage has been postponed to the Fall of 2016, and the information session will be later in the Spring.)

Grace School Support

Grace Church provides significant support to Grace School, and we can all contribute to that support in three ways:

1. If you shop at Kroger, designate Grace Kindergarten as the recipient of credits accrued from all your purchases.  This does not interfere in any way with your own points earned toward savings on gasoline.  You can make your designation online at "kroger.com" or at the customer service counter at Kroger.  If you need assistance, talk with Tom Schmidt, Treasurer of the Kindergarten Board of Directors.

2.  Save any "Boxtops for Education" that may be on many grocery products that you regularly purchase.  There is a container on the table across from the sacristy where you may deposit your box top decals.

3.  When you have a birthday, consider giving a dollar for each year of your life as a gift to Grace School, as an offering of thanksgiving for all the blessings of your life.  Thank you!

Prayer from Ignatius of Loyola (16th century)

"Receive, Lord, all my liberty, my memory, my understanding, and my whole will.  You have given me all that I have, all that I am, and I surrender all to your divine will, that you dispose of me.  Give me only your love and your grace.  With this I am rich enough, and have no more to ask."
