Think... Grad School event (similar to last year)
November 24th, 5:00pm - 7:00pm
Grad Club (entire first floor)
Open to all fourth year students in Arts and Science

Looking for grad students, UGC's and Graduate Chairs to attend at this event. The primary purpose is recruiting grad students with undergrad chairs and professors helping to make the transition for these students and introduce them to the grad chairs. Volunteers will be provided with a beverage ticket in exchange for their time.

An email invitation will be sent to all fourth year students later today from our office. Next week we will include a message for the UGC's to send directly to any fourth years they think should attend.

Ideally, each department will send on top of the UGC and Grad Chair, 1-2 grad students that can help talk about life as a grad student in your programs. Please confirm by November 18th those that will be attending from your department.

Following the event, we will be drafting an email for you to send to attendees that are interested in your programs to keep them engaged and help them through the process of applying. You should expect this email to arrive by November 26th for you to send out the first week of December.

Gordon Smith, Vice Dean Faculty of Arts and Sciences awarded the Distinguished Service Award for 2015. The award recognizes exemplary service to Queen's over an extended period of time. Gordon Smith has served as Director of the Queen's School of Music, Associate Dean, and now Vice-Dean in the Faculty of Arts and Science. During that time he has worked to develop joint programs with St. Lawrence College, establishing the Indigenous Studies Minor, working to create a Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Arts and has been an active member of the Aboriginal Council of Queen's. One of Dr. Smith's greatest services to Queen's came from when he chaired the Operations and Planning Committee for the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts. In this position he balanced the needs, interests, and opinions of many different parties. Because he cared deeply about the Isabel, he spent hundreds of hours reviewing plans to make sure that everything was just right. [ read story]
