TAKE ACTION: Help Feed Children.
This year, Congress must re-authorize the law that sets funding and policy for our country's child nutrition programs, including school meals, summer feeding, and the WIC nutrition program for pregnant and new mothers along with their small children. All of these programs have helped millions of children over the decades. Contact your congressional leader and urge their support of child nutrition programs.

National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week
November 14 - 22
I
t does not matter where you live or what ethnicity you are - hunger has no boundaries.
Hunger impacts families and individuals, seniors, children, and people with disabilities. It affects the homeless as well as working families who were once stable but now need help to survive. According to Feeding America, there are more than 200,000 people in Palm Beach and Martin Counties who do not know where there next meal will come from.
Suzie is a grandmother of eight. She is disabled and takes care of her eight grandchildren every afternoon, on holidays, and during the summer. This requires her to keep extra food at her home. "Taking care of my grandchildren is important to me. Coming to the food pantry makes it so that I can keep looking after them. If I didn't come to the pantry, I would not be able to feed myself, let alone my grandchildren."

Want to make a difference locally? You can in 4 hours a week!
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) is a national program staffed by local volunteers to provide free tax preparation and e-filing of returns to qualified taxpayers. The VITA Program is an invaluable service United Way of Palm Beach County has been providing to the community for the past twelve years. It targets individuals and families with low-to-moderate incomes who are eligible for tax credits. The program has prepared more than 106,000 tax returns yielding over $167 million in refunds and providing an estimated $250 million economic impact for Palm Beach County.
Volunteers are the key to the VITA Program's success.* As we enter the program's thirteenth year of service, United Way needs your help recruiting 200 volunteers in December and early January. Tax season is January through April 2016. No experience is required and there are opportunities that don't involve preparing taxes.
