Kentucky is capitalizing on the branding of its well-recognized exports of bourbon and horses, but did you know that the Commonwealth's largest export industry is actually aerospace? In 2013, Kentucky exported more than $5.6 billion in aerospace products and parts. That's more than 20 percent of the state's total exports according to a recent article in Trade & Industry, which highlighted Kentucky's growing aerospace footprint.
On Thursday, December 3rd the Lexington Forum will explore the economic impact of Kentucky's Aerospace Industry. Presenters Kris Kimel, President of the Kentucky Science & Technology Corp. (KSTC), and Brad Thomas, Associate Manager of Economic Development for East Kentucky Power Cooperative, will each share insights on space science and the remarkable impact it has on our lives and economy here in Kentucky.
Kris Kimel will highlight the genesis of the space satellite program in Kentucky and how the industry has created entrepreneurial space for our economy while Brad Thomas will talk more in depth on what it all means for Kentucky, particularly Eastern Kentucky, in terms of economic development and quality of life for the region.
