A checklist with tips as you start your new job
 
  smiling-sharp-man.jpgWorkforce Planning Hamilton has released a handy checklist that has tips for people who have just started a new job. The list was originally developed by the Peel Newcomer Strategy Group and was adapted for the Hamilton community. Available in both English and French, the checklist will help new hires to fit in quickly to their new workplace and to show immediately that they can contribute positively. 
 
 
Low-skilled stream of the Temporary Foreign Workers Program being phased out
 
The Government of Canada announced changes to the Temporary Foreign Worker Program including that employers will be barred from hiring TFWs in regions where the unemployment rate is above 6%. There will be a 10% cap on the number of low-wage TFWs employers can hire per work site by 2016.

Group mentoring proves to be a success amongst professional immigrant networks

 
Over the past year, three professional immigrant networks, JVS Toronto and TRIEC partnered on a small group mentoring project that proved to be a success, including leading to job opportunities for some of the participants.
