GISC Gala
GISC Gala Thanks
Over 150 guests partied the night away on Saturday, March 29, at the Ravenswood Event Center at GISC's 4th Annual Spring Gala. Guests enjoyed a fantastic evening with an open bar reception, gourmet dinner, live music, whiskey tastings, crazy photos in our photo booth, and late night dancing! The Gala was very successful, raising over $70,000 (almost $50,000 after expenses) for GISC. A selection of pictures from the Gala can be found on GISC's Facebook page. Thanks again to everyone who supported GISC - we are thankful for your generosity!
Fire Station Visit
Fire Station and Field Museum Field Trips
On Tuesday, March 18, GISC students got some hands-on experiences during field trips to various locations. The preschoolers headed to a nearby fire house to learn about fire safety. The kindergarten and grade schoolers trekked to the Field Museum where they learned about Ancient Egypt and our Evolving Planet (including Dinosaurs) and went on an Underground Adventure amongst the bugs.

June 23 - August 1
Lyce Franais de Chicago
613 West Bittersweet Place, Chicago, IL 60613

GISC is happy to partner with the Lyce Franais once again to offer German Immersion Summer Camp at the Lyce.  Camp activities include sports, games, crafts, music, and field trips. There are two weekly field trips: one to the beach and one to various places around Chicago such as a water park, the zoo, and a bowling alley.

The Lyce also runs camps in French, Mandarin Chinese, and Arabic, so the camp program (called "World Camps") has an international focus, and children from different camps are encouraged to interact with one another. Although the camp is meant to be fun and play-based, our teachers will incorporate grammar and vocabulary-building strategies into activities so that the children will be improving their German as they play.

The camp will run for three two-week sessions from June 23 - August 1, 2014, five days a week, from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm. It takes place at the Lyce location, 613 W. Bittersweet Place at Lake Shore Drive. The children will be divided into two groups, ages 3-5 ("Die Forscher") and ages 6-10 ("Die Abenteuerer"). GISC's own Frau Polanski will be teaching the younger group, and Frau Karin Foidl, a teacher at the Twin Cities German Immersion School and a graduate student at the University of Minnesota studying English and German Language Teaching, will lead the older group.

2014 Dates (in 2-week blocks):

  • June 23 - July 3, 2014
  • July 7 - July 18, 2014
  • July 21 - August 1, 2014

Families can sign up for one, two, or all three 2-week blocks.

Tuition is $780 per two week session and includes a t-shirt, snacks, daily Green Monkey catered lunch and all field trip expenses. There is also before and after camp care available from 8:00-9:00 am and 3:00-5:30 pm for an additional charge.
