CISD earns 2013 Gold Leadership Circle Award by the Texas Comptroller
Texas Comptroller Susan Combs, notified Dr. Diane Frost, Superintendent of Corsicana ISD, in February that the district was a recipient of the Texas Comptroller's Gold Leadership Circle Award for 2013. This award recognizes governments across Texas that are striving to meet a high financial transparency.
"This is one more step that CISD can take to ensure our public that we are responsible stewards of funds at Corsicana ISD," said Dr. Frost. "Anytime we can provide clarity to the public, especially regarding the CISD budget and spending, is a positive step. I congratulate Michael Nielsen (Assist. Superintendent of Finance) and his staff for making this information accessible."

7th grade UIL Academic results:
---In Team competitions:
The Calculator Applications team of Caden Reed, J.R. Reynolds, and Vanessa Guerra took 3rd place. The Mathematics team of Caden Reed, J.R. Reynolds, and Jan Carlo Perez received 3rd place. The Social Studies team of Kelsey Vincent, Kamron Thompson and Jonathan Monk also received 3rd place.
---Individual awards for 7th grade are:
Jonathan Monk won 1st place in Modern Oratory. Derica Pipkin won 2nd place in both Prose and Impromptu Speech. Ann Nguyen won 2nd place in Ready-Writing essay. Caden Reed stayed busy with 2nd place in Calculator Applications, 3rd place in Mathematics and 5th place in Number Sense. In Poetry, Maiden Barber placed 3rd, Malika Muhommed placed 4th, and Anaria Brown received 6th. Kelsey Vincent placed 4th in Social Studies. J.R. Reynolds received 4th in Science. Garrin Fraze took 5th place in Ready-Writing Essay. Jayla Johnson received 6th place in both Editorial Writing and Prose. Jan Carlo Perez also received 6th in Listening Skills.
8th grade UIL Academic results:
---In Team competitions: The Spelling team of Sheila Garcia, Jennifer Sosa, and Matthew Guo won 1st place! Our Science team of David Teran, Aniq Chunara, and Matthew Guo took 2nd place. Also taking 2nd place were: --the Calculator Applications team of John Beck, Reed Meason, and Carlton McDaniel. --the Chess team of Abel Velasco, Alex Yepez, and Johan Richardson --the Mathematics team of John Beck, Victoria Martinez, and Matthew Guo --the Number Sense team of John Beck, Matthew Guo, and Jessie Krantz.
Finally, the Listening team of Dustin McCarter, Maria Ramirez, and Victoria Martinez placed 4th.
---Individual awards for 8th grade are:
John Beck led the way by taking FIRST PLACE in 3 events: Calculator Applications, Mathematics and Number Sense. Way to go, John!
David Teran won 2nd place in Science. Aniq Chunara also stayed busy by placing 2nd in Modern Oratory, and receiving 3rd place in both Prose and Science. Both Sheila Garcia and Jennifer Sosa tied for 3rd place in Spelling while team-mate Matthew Guo received 6th place. Abel Velasco received 4th place in Chess Puzzle and Alex Yepez took 6th place. Alisan Andrews took 4th place in Impromptu Speech. Dustin McCarter received 4th place in Listening, Jennifer Sosa placed 5th in Prose, Kameron Betts received 6th place in Modern Oratory and Victoria Martinez placed 6th in Mathematics.
Overall, the Collins Middle School 8th grade team placed 3rd.
