 Why Rayon Challis?

Pronounced shalee, this plain weave fabric is soft to the touch with lots of drape.  Sewers and designers have used it for many years to create soft silhouettes. Currently, a new incarnation of designers in Europe have glommed onto the attributes of this fabrication for dresses and tops that fall from the shoulders or waist in soft gathers or pleats.   Learn More...

Prints are the statement this month!

Earth, Fire, and Water

Dramatic in size and presentation, this fabulous printed linen will make a unique garment for your creative wardrobe. Large displays of color swaths suggest a landscape in the basic elements of earth, fire and water. Olive green, forest, burgundy, salmon coral and aqua flow from one to the other in deeply saturated hues. This is not a panel print, but if you want a full repeat you'll need to order considering the 31.5 inch vertical repeat. Any questions, feel free to contact us via email or phone for assistance. This one is worth the effort for your collection of unique fabrics. 100% mid-weight linen. From Milly

Fabulous designs are what it's all about with Amalfi knits. This busy and dramatic print combines animal and reptilian prints in unconventional colors displayed in an energetic and fast moving design. Summery and bright the jersey knit will work up well in tops, dresses or flowing pants, if you dare. Sea blue, turquoise, coral orange and kiwi green combine with naturals. Poly/spandex.
June  in blue
printed viscose challis

From the popular show tune, June is bustin' out all over! Full bloom florals burst forth from the softly colored millefluers background giving the print a boost of energy. The contemporary print speaks gently, but with an air of playfulness. Designed and milled in Europe, this soft viscose rayon challis is a great choice for blouses, dresses or skirts. drape for gentle details at the shoulder or waist.

printed rayon challis

From our Bistro Perky and pretty, this all over floral print is a fresh as an early summer day. Shades of turquoise and periwinkle form abstract blossoms surrounded by partial outlines of petaled flowers on a white ground. Accents of black, leaf green, rose pink and sunny yellow complete the garden. With all the benefits of rayon challis, this fabric will make up well in any silhouette that requires soft drape from shoulders or waist.
Tiger Lily
printed viscose

Unique prints are what we can count on from our European suppliers. This digital print does not disappoint. The full bloom floral trellis repeats three times in the 54 inch width and is crossed with soft black wavy motifs that can be seen as animal print stripes or lacy gridwork depending on your point of view. Fuchsia, sunshine yellow, spearmint and rusty coral dominate the floral colors. Regardless of your perception, the distinctive feature of this print is the suggestion of filtered light shining through the floralscape. We can't resist the idea of palazzo pants so on trend right now. The soft hand and flowing weight of this viscose challis will be perfect for summer fun in maxi dress or palazzos.  check out our Pinterest board on Palazzos for inspiration!
Sew N Tell With Laura B

I haven't sewn in years.  I recently took a jacket workshop with Sarah Fortin, sponsored by the Nashoba Valley Weavers' Guild.  The purpose of the workshop was to teach weavers to sew
with their handwoven cloth.  Unfortunately I didn't get my yardage woven in time for the workshop, so purchased this wool twill cloth from Sawyer Brook.
Laura sewed her new jacket creation with Matterhorn.
It turned out to be a great challenge, as the cloth behaved very much like handwoven yardage.  I still need a button or two, but otherwise it's done.  Thanks to the ladies at Sawyer Brook for helping this novice figure out what I needed for the class!

Laura, we think you are showing awesome sewing skills. You're a novice no more! We love the jacket!

From our website:
Matterhorn
We love the texture of this wool jacketing! Diagonal lines in winter white alternate with twisted yarns of cloud blue and dusty green. Sophisticated with a nod to feminine taste, this fabric will tailor well for classic structured jackets, swing coats or vests. Wool Plus milled in France.
