Policy Review Board October Meeting Report

 October 31, 2015

Folks,

At the regularly scheduled Fall PRB meeting on October 26th several items were discussed that we want to share with you.

David Myerberg, PRB Chairman, announced that there are four new members of the PRB who will be replacing four who were not reappointed to the board by Governor Hogan.  Those members who have not been reappointed are John Stakem, Sue Fowler, Barbara Beelar, and Chairman David Myerberg.  The new members appointed by Governor Hogan to take these seats are Bob Kelly, Jim Bailey, Marta Schroyer, and Greg Snook (Chairman).

David Myerberg advised he planned to stay active in lake related matters and would continue to work towards implementation of the Deep Creek Lake Watershed Management Plan.  The POA Board remains grateful for David's commitment and positive efforts toward the health and welfare of the entire Deep Creek Watershed

Debbie Carpenter, Director, Garrett County Department of Planning and Land Management, provided a presentation on the North Glade Run Storm Water Management Study.  This presentation may be found here. Please address questions to Debbie at [email protected]

Paul Peditto, Director, Wildlife and Heritage Service, DNR, provided a brief presentation regarding the planned Goose Hunt scheduled for November 2015.  As currently planned, the hunt will be from boats tied to marker buoys in the areas of the State Park, Green Glade Cove, and Turkey Neck.  A maximum of four hunters will be allowed per boat with a daily limit of five birds per hunter.  More details and the process to use if you are interested in participating will be provided in a forthcoming press release from DNR which will be sent to our membership as soon as it is available.

Darrell Anthony, Assistant Secretary for Land Resources, gave a brief presentation concerning DNR's purchase of the property at Turkey Neck.  Darrell advised public response received by DNR was largely negative to the idea of the land purchase.  DNR is carefully reviewing a letter and related information provided by the Concerned Citizens of Turkey Neck.  A decision from DNR as to whether it will proceed with the purchase is expected soon.

Commissioner Paul Edwards advised that the Board of Commissioners is still working to finalize the Watershed Management Plan and hope to do so during November 2015.

The matter of eliminating the time restrictions Personal Watercraft are permitted to be used on DCL during the summer will be addressed by the PRB at the next meeting once all new members have been sworn in.

Cheers,

Bob Hoffmann
President
