City Council approves Changes to Grant Rd Vision
1st to Tucson Blvd now more Neighborhood Friendly
September 9, the City Council  approved the changes to page 40 of the Grant Road Plan which addressed Jefferson Park. The coalition, your neighbors, spent many hours meeting with every council member to ask for more neighborhood protections along the "central segments" - 1st to Tucson Blvd. As  a result,  Karen Uhlich, Ward III, submitted this change:
"Following the widening of Grant Road, pursue land uses and/or buffers that 1) are in-keeping with existing zoning, neighborhood/area plans, and existing uses 2) are compatible with and enhance surrounding properties. Examples of uses/buffers could include multi-model paths for pedestrians and bicycles, open spaces and linear parks, architectural elements and buffering walls, and development similar to what exists today."       Which was approved unanimously.

Once again, neighborhood participation has made a difference.  Much more still  needs to be done. Actual planning is next, and needs many minds to come up with great plans. Please note that meetings have been changed from mornings to  more accessible, 6 pm meetings.  Please consider attending those which fit into your schedule and help where you can. This is a project worth investing your time!   Thank you, Coalition.         J. Daniels

Banner Health Supports Jefferson Park proposed bike/walking Loop

Invest your time locally! If this interests you, attend a JPNA or Friends meeting and see how you can become involved. Some segments of the loop are already in place (Campbell and Mountain) or planned (Lester/Banner, Park, and Grant west of Park).  We need your support to see that the remaining segments are developed.  More on this in the next e-news.

A second informational meeting about Banner Project. If you missed the first, the Banner meeting at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church on Sept 21st, is basically for those who have not yet been to Banner's informative presentation, although anyone interested is welcome to attend.

Did you know that if you received a Trees for Tucson Tree that did not survive, you can request a free tree replacement?

Did you know that you can receive help with pruning large trees in the right-of-ways? When we do improvements in the public easements beside our houses, the City maintenance agreement  commits us to do the basic weeding and pruning, but the Department of Transportation will send out help for bigger issues, such as removing the large dead Allepo pines.

SEPTEMBER IS NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH - This month marks the 12th annual National Preparedness Month from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). As part of the month, Tucson officials are urging you to be prepared for an emergency, such as a multi-day power outage or an interruption in utilities. Be Prepared Tucson advises all residents to create a 72-hour emergency kit. Each member of your family, including pets, should have a kit. A website (link below) from the City of Tucson, U.S. Department of Energy, Homeland Security, and FEMA has a checklist of everything you need to be ready for an emergency.
