All week I have had an extreme sense of gratitude for the love this congregation has shown not only me but the families in need who come to us for help.  Welcome Back Sunday was so much fun, music, food, fellowship, and waterslides.  None of this work would be possible without the care and intention you all put into loving your neighbor. 

 

I had a fantastic break from the summer heat, first getting into the wilderness and second to see family in Connecticut.  Special thanks to Father Nathan and Mother Kelly for covering while I was out. 

 

School is back in full swing for most and prayers for all teachers, students, and parents. I hope everyone has a great semester.  I look forward to the upcoming events of the semester. Please mark your calendars for some fun and opportunities to serve.

Vicar to The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection

 

We had a record number of children and teachers coming to receive their blessings before the start of school this year. Fully equipped with backpacks and briefcases, they strolled up to the chancel to be blessed. 

Mother Kelly Jennings pronounced the blessing, and each child and teacher received a special gift of a luggage tag for their backpack or briefcase. 

The kids came prepared for after the service, too. It didn't take them long to abandon their clothes for their swim suits and the water slide for great, wet fun outdoors.   

 

And the ministry of hospitality has always been a hallmark of The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection. We love our coffee hour after the 10:30 service. It's a time to be together and experience our community of fellowship. 

Lately, we've noted that the same few faithful and generous persons have been supplying just about all of the refreshments, and starting on Sept. 1st, we will be instituting a new system to help with that. Dividing up into teams of three, we'll be asking each team member to bring one thing to help with the refreshments. Just simple items -- not to replace a lunch -- but just to offer some nibbles while we enjoy our time together after church. 

Each team of three will have a leader, and the leader will recieve a call from the church office on Tuesdays as a reminder of their turn coming up. A team's turn will probably not come around more than twice per year at the most, so it shouldn't be a burden on anyone. We will have simple menu suggestions for each team leader, but the team will ultimately decide what they supply. By the way, men aren't exempted from the hospitality teams, either.   

Anyone who has a special day they wish to acknowledge can contact the team leader for that specific Sunday (or the church office), and take over the refreshments for that day. A list of the teams will be posted in the Narthex where the sign-up sheet was previously posted, and the team for Sunday will be posted in each week's MidWeek,  beginning ne xt week. 

Please reserve Sat. Oct. 10th for a special day-long get-away at a beautiful place to enjoy fun, fellowship and relaxation. This all day event will begin at 10 a.m. and last through 9 p.m. at McKinney Falls State Park, right here, locally in Austin. What could be more convenient?

We will enjoy two meals, lunch and dinner together, and have the spacious group hall reserved with kitchen facilities, outdoor patio and bar-be-cue grill, etc. The Park amenities are there to enjoy, the cliff walk along Onion Creek, swimming, fishing, hiking and space for all sorts of outdoor activities.

Andy Lyon and Jennifer Johnston join Bob Beyer in co-planning the event. No alcohol is permitted in the State Park, and the only cost is day use admission. Children under 12 are admitted for free.

Wednesday morning Bible Study continues from 8:30 am to 9:30 am at Genuine Joe's Coffee House at 2001 W. Anderson Lane.  The Bible study has progressed to the Apocryphal book of 

II Esdras.
