Happy New Year!

On our January 1st Facebook post, River Cities United Way asked the question: Which of these are you going to add to your New Year's Resolution- Give, Advocate, or Volunteer?

United Way's mission is to advance the common good by creating opportunities for a good life in the communities we serve. And while we often think of giving by donating money when we think of United Way, I know of many agencies that could greatly benefit from an hour or two of a volunteer's time to help with their programming. And what organization couldn't benefit from someone taking the time to advocate for their cause, especially when it's done with a targeted audience?

With Give, Advocate, Volunteer - there's really something for everyone. Regardless of your age or stage in life, at least one of these actions can be done by every single person, and each one can go a long way to advancing the common good by creating opportunities for a good life in Mohave & La Paz Counties, Laughlin, and Needles.

So this year as you think about your New Year's Resolutions, consider your resources of time, talent, and money and consider putting one or more of them to good use with a resolution that will benefit not only yourself, but your community as well.

A homeless veteran came into the food bank for food after he had been living in his truck with his wife.  He was very ill and did not have the money to drive to Prescott to the Veterans Hospital to get his medicine.  We were able to supply him with food, and one of the volunteers made several phone calls and was able to connect him to our local VA office to see a doctor, and found them shelter.  He also needed a tire for his truck as it was very dangerous for him to drive on a bad tire so made some calls to find him a spare tire.  The clients who waited while we were taking care of this man were very patient and thanked us for what our volunteers did to help.

To make 2014 your year, keep it simple:

1) Count your blessings first.
2) Whatever you did last year, do it better.
3) Go step by step, one day at a time.
4) Create/make your own opportunities.
5) Believe in your abilities at all times.
6) Quitting is not an option. Keep going.
7) Finish what you started.

Our New Websitenew_website

Marketing for River Cities United Way has been a collaborated effort of volunteers and our Marketing Director, Robert Starkey. Thank you to Steve Johnson, Pamela Hargrave, Flip Brady, Cheryl Ramsden, Robert Jacobo, Kimberly Johnson, Kathy Chapman, and Ryan Kennedy for being a part of the RCUW Marketing Team. We are a group of volunteers who meet via email and Robert does most of the leg work. Our group is open to accept anyone who would like to volunteer to be a part of the RCUW Marketing Team; just let us know.

Have you had the opportunity to view our website lately?
If not link now: www.RiverCitiesUnitedWay.com.

You will notice some eye catching changes. Robert has been the "master mind" behind the renovation of RCUW website. You will notice more color and easier navigation throughout the website. New tabs and subjects have been added, keeping in mind of the user not only being the donor, but curiosity browsers, sponsors, partner agencies, and anyone else who happens to peruse the River Cities United Way website. Some new things to look for are the Calendar, Join Our Team, Campaign Materials (with easy download), Donation Forms (prompts for submission), Pillar Recognition, ALL Corporate Cornerstone Sponsors and Pillar Donors, Media (incorporating local & world-wide logos, newsprint scans, radio, news, television), Newsletters (present & past plus registration sign-up), updated FAQ and articles posted automatically to Facebook, and Twitter.

The improvements of RCUW website were brought on because of an increase in cost of the original website provider. Robert reviewed their demands and researched taking control of the website in-house. The costs were $700 a year to stay with the current provider. By taking care of our own website the cost to RCUW is only $59 per year. The website is also mobile and tablet friendly, an additional up-charge under the previous provider.

In a Nut Shell...thank you Robert for taking River Cities United Way's website to the next level and minimizing its operational costs.
