Montgomery Twp/ShopRite Turkey Donation Program
Montgomery Township is pleased to announce that we will once again work with ShopRite of Montgomery on a Turkey Donation program for Thanksgiving 2015.

If you earn a free ShopRite Turkey* (see how to earn below) and would like to donate it to the Montgomery Township Food Pantry, visit the ShopRite Service Desk and they will take care of you.
You may sign up to donate your free ShopRite turkey during store hours through Sunday November 22, 2015. Visit the ShopRite Service Desk. You will need to present your ShopRite Price Plus ® Card at Customer Service. The earned free turkey points will be deducted from your account and a turkey will be donated to the Montgomery Township Food Pantry Program.

Important note: Please do not drop off turkeys at the Montgomery Township Food pantry. We cannot accept perishable items. We have arranged a special program working directly with ShopRite.
About the pantry: We gratefully accept all non-expired, non-perishable food and non-food grocery and toiletry items. Items on our donation wish list for November include: canned tuna and canned chicken, meat stews, hearty soups, canned pineapple, canned pears, boxed pasta and jars of pasta sauce, mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, boxed cereal, laundry detergent, shampoo, dish soap, tissues, napkins, and paper towels.

We schedule appointments for donation deliveries and client visits to ensure the privacy and confidentiality of our clients. We do offer an "open donation time" on Mondays between 8:30am and 9:30am and Mondays between 1:30pm and 4:00pm and we schedule donation appointments on other days and times. On Mondays we have a shopping cart in the vestibule of the Senior Center where donors can deliver non-expired, non-perishable food or non-food grocery items and sign in on our donation log.
This ensures that donors and clients are not here at the same time.

The Montgomery community is incredibly generous and we appreciate the support. The Food Pantry and Montgomery families having difficulty making ends meet are very thankful to have such a caring community willing to help in so many ways.
You can contact the Food Pantry via email [email protected] or by phone 609-466-1054

To earn a free turkey, just present your Price Plus® card to the cashier at the start of the order every time you shop at any ShopRite Supermarket starting Sunday, October 18, 2015 and you will be automatically credited. There is no need to save your register tapes.

Price Plus® club membership is required to participate in this program. If you are not yet a Price Plus® club member, sign up today . . . It's FREE and you get your card on the spot. You must use the same Price Plus® card number each time you shop at ANY ShopRite location.

'Minute to Win It' Game Show Comes to Montgomery Senior Center

Its hard to describe the excitement and spirited fun when Hillsborough and Montgomery Seniors duked it out, game show style, for a 6th year of "Minute to Win It" Oct. 23, 2015.

The OKCC gym was packed and seniors were joined in competition by two student classes - Mrs. Weiner's 4th grade class from Montgomery and Mrs. Wright's 4th graders from Hillsborough.

Mayor Christine Madrid served as a referee, along with Hillsborough Administrator Anthony Ferrera. Beloved gym teacher/MC Johnny Rooney never stopped cracking jokes, bantering with Senior Center Director Denise Crowley who still somehow managed to calmly explained the rules.

Timed, competitive tasks included being the first team to spin all the tp off toilet paper rolls; remove tissues from a box one-by-one; or 'applestack'. And although Hillsborough's side battled valiantly and waved mops and signs saying, "Mop the Floor with Montgomery", this year Montgomery took the trophy home in a close call. Everyone won with the delicious lunch that followed and had lots of great stories to tell until next year!

The event was organized by both senior centers and sponsored by the Montgomery/Rocky Hill and Hillsborough Rotary Clubs.

The Montgomery Senior Center is  located at the Otto Kaufman Community Center at 356 Skillman Rd, Skillman, across the road from the north side of Montgomery High School. We welcome new members 60+ years. No dues are collected; attend as many times a week as you wish. The Center is open Mon-Fri, 9am-1pm, for Somerset County-run activities & bus transportation. However, the building remains open for use until 4:30 pm. Hot lunch is served for a suggested donation of $1.50. Manager Denise Crowley sets up lunches & activities. To add or cancel a lunch, you must call (609) 466-0846 by 10:30 am with 24-hour notice.

To register for the Senior Center, please contact Denise Crowley at 609-466-0846. Transportation to the center is now handled by Somerset County Transportation - (908) 231-7115 or 1-800-246-0527. 24-hour notice for pick-ups & cancellations required. The Montgomery Senior Center is operated through a partnership between Montgomery Township and the Somerset County Office on Aging.
