Dear Friends of Naturopathic Medicine;
Many of you have asked about my trip to Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic! It was inspirational in so many ways. Let me count the ways:
1. I was able to relax, and fully live in the present moment and really enjoy the time with my family (wife and two adult sons). I do admit to answering patient emails while away, though!
2. I love the ocean, especially swimming and body surfing in huge waves. The ocean temp in Puerto Rico was 83 degrees! My Raynaud's Disease (a medical condition that causes very cold, numb fingers during cold temperatures) was definitely not a factor. My sons and I were swimming for two to three hours at a time in the absolutely gorgeous ocean water. It was wonderful!
3. My sons and I had a chance to have very extended conversations about the deepest and most meaningful things in life.
4. Never before did my wife, two sons, and I ever dance so much - as we did in Dominican Republic as we
were attending a wedding. I saw both sons put on moves that I have never seen before! It was so wonderful to see my kids having so much fun dancing.
5. My sons and I talked extensively about running, fitness and nutrition. I came back committed to working out more, muscle-wise, and lowering my body fat by December 6 for
California International Marathon
. Please see my challenge below.
Dr. Godby's Challenge - Start the Fall Inspired!
Are you ready for the Dr. Godby Fat Loss Challenge? Let me explain! I will be running my first marathon since the 1980s (NO, I'm not asking you to run). I am running the 26.2 miles CIM (California International Marathon) on Sunday, December 6, 2015. I know that my marathon time will be at least an hour slower than when I was in my 20s, not just because I am 30 years older, and haven't been running much since my 2011 injury, but because the rest of my body is much less fit (less muscle, more fat) than when I was in my 20s. I also know that I could run much faster if I reduce my current 20.4% body fat to 16.4%, or less. So, this is my goal by Thanksgiving. Besides running, I need to do extensive strengthening and stretching exercises.
Here's where you fit in: I would like to encourage you - if you feel you would be healthier if you lost some fat - to accept my challenge and get a test done here at the clinic, ASAP, called a BIA (
Body
Impedance
Analysis - covering percent fat and many other fitness factors). Here's the deal to inspire you - if you reduce your body fat percentage by 4% or more, between now and any time before Thanksgiving, your Second BIA will be FREE. If not, you would pay the full price of $45. To encourage you to get started, if you accept the challenge, your first BIA (or any other BIAs you may elect to do before the finale) will be reduced from $45 to $25. Also, any nutritional supplements that you purchase - intended for fat loss, will be discounted 20% instead of the normal 10%. Just tell the staff you are part of the Dr. Godby Challenge. Instead of waiting until the new year to get healthier, why not show up to your holiday festivities feeling great and already in momentum.
Also, I received a message from Dietitian Meghan O'Hara, RD/Health Coach that works out of our office. To assist in this Fat Loss Challenge, Meghan is offering a deal for people interested in the Hc3 Trim Program and fat loss. Usually her initial consultation is 90 min ($125) and follow ups are 60 min ($85) or $210 total, but she is offering a $25 discount, so both the initial consultation and follow up would be only $185.
Please call 916-446-2591 or email:
[email protected] if you would like to join the Challenge fun! To contact Meghan directly, her number is: 916-800-2115.

Update on California Naturopathic Pending Legislation
I received the following update from our the CNDA state office this last week about our legislation that many of you were involved in - Thank you!
"Despite the almost superhuman efforts of our lobbyists and the core legislation team and many of you helping out in district meetings, SB 538 failed to get the votes needed to pass out of the Assembly Appropriations Committee last week. We were able to successfully make it through four of the seven steps needed to get the bill signed into law, more than our opponents expected. However, with fewer other bills to oppose and heavy lobbying power, CMA (California Medical Association and the other medical groups, such as Kaiser Permanente) were able to stall our bill - for now.
The good news is that this is not finished, just postponed. We will be able to restart the process again next year at the same point in the bill's journey.
We will keep you posted on the timing of things but look out for requests for support this fall as we start to lay the groundwork for the next session. We want to be sure to thank everyone who donated money, sent letters, made calls, took meetings with legislators and staff, and came to Sacramento for lobby day or to testify in hearings.
We couldn't have done it without you. Next year, we will need all of that energy AND MORE to get the bill passed.
The work of the legislative committee will continue this year. Please DO donate to support the ongoing campaign, DO respond if someone from the CNDA calls or emails you.
Thank you!
Your CNDA Legislative Team

My sister, Mary Rita Godby Ely (in purple), three time ovarian cancer survivor since she was first diagnosed 9 years ago, and her daughter, Tessa Ely (in green), as they climb Mt. Alyeska in Alaska last weekend to raise awareness of "cancers below the belt." Please check out the website so you can be, "down there, aware." BTW, the ovarian cancer blood test marker that diagnosed my sister with ovarian cancer was the CA125. She uses that test routinely, along with others, to check her status. There is a mere 17% survival rate for ovarian cancer - Mary Rita's incredible resilient attitude, along with naturopathic and conventional medical care - have contributed to her current status of being cancer-free.

Ironically, I will be speaking at this conference at the exact same time as the incredibly inspirational, Dr. Thomas O'Bryan, DC, who I consider to be the world's most important gluten authority and is, undoubtedly, one of the best speakers I have ever heard!
