Resilience

One of the things I am most grateful is our community's willingness to rally when help is needed. That sense of community is what makes this such a special place to live, work, go to school, raise a family and vacation. And, it's what gives me hope in the face of global warming.

YVSC is leading our community to improve our environmental, economic and social sustainability--for greater RESILIENCE and adaptability for our climate future. We look to you to rally with us. Whether that's getting a free energy audit (see below), participating in the Community Recycling Drop-Off, planting trees at a ReTree event, sorting compostables and recyclables at a Zero Waste event, or making a financial donation, we couldn't do it without you. Thank you for creating a healthy, prosperous, resilient and equitable community with us!

Free Energy Audits
Last month's media blitz for energy audit customers was such a huge success that we've had to reach out to energy auditors from Eagle County to help us conduct all the assessments.

The free home energy assessments are made available to Atmos and YVEA customers through a collaboration on rebates from Energy Smart Colorado and Cen$ible Energy (administered by YVSC).

YVSC wants to thank Holiday Inn Steamboat for housing our Eagle County auditors through November!

Zero Waste Classroom Parties
The Soda Creek and Strawberry Park school lunchrooms get closer to Zero Waste every day, and now classroom parties will, too! Events tend to generate a lot of waste, mainly from single-use tableware, like plastic spoons (see video link). But, thanks to funding from the YVEA Caring Consumers Fund and YVSC, both schools were able to purchase reusable party packs for classroom parties. Each set has durable plates, cups, bowls and silverware that can be washed and reused. Food scraps and paper napkins will go into the school's compost bin. The Zero Waste party packs were a huge hit at Halloween and reduced party waste significantly!

Colorado Gives Day is December 8th
Pre-schedule your donation today

Last year on Colorado Gives Day, donor supporters like you rallied to raise almost $7,000 in individual donations to YVSC, plus $3,250 in Yampa Valley Gives local prize money for our high number donors (83!). All of these donations, incentive funds and prizes went to protect our local environment and create a more resilient community.

This year, Colorado Gives Day is December 8, but you can preschedule your donation starting today. When you use this handy feature to schedule your one-time online donation, your contribution gets a boost from the $1.2 million statewide incentive fund and counts towards YVSC's tally to earn prizes from Yampa Valley Gives.

The folks at Colorado Gives have made pre-scheduling your donation is even easier this year. Under Donation type, just click the CO GIVES DAY button.   Click here  to pre-schedule your donation to YVSC today.

Congratulations to New City Council Members

We have been honored to collaborate with Steamboat Springs City Council thoughout the history of the Sustainability Council -- their support of our work and their dedication to many aspects of sustainability (community, economy, environment, growth, building, energy) is commendable.  We hope that the newly elected council members continue this direction and make sustainability a top priority, protecting our local environment--and economy--for generations to come.

We look forward to working with the new council!
