Georgia Chamber for Businessscore

The Georgia Chamber has released its 2014 Legislative Scorecard, providing grades for members of the Georgia General Assembly based on their votes on certain pro-business measures considered during this year's session. In addition to the 2014 grades, the scorecard also reflects all legislators' 2013 midterm assessments and final grades for the 2013-2014 legislative term. Nearly every lawmaker in both the Georgia House and Senate earned a passing grade on this year's scorecard.

          • Senator John Wilkinson:  A+
          • Representative Terry Rogers:  A+
          • Representative Dan Gasaway:  A+
CONGRATULATIONS!
Habersham Medical Center was recently awarded the "Georgia Coverdell Champion Hospital of the Year" honor for stroke care in the small hospital category (26-100 beds) for 2013.

The award, presented by the Georgia Coverdell Acute Stroke Registry, aims to increase collaboration between hospitals and other healthcare providers, develop improved protocols of treatment to provide better care for stroke patients, reduce the occurrence of subsequent strokes and lower the stroke death rate.

Only four hospitals received this award which was presented at the Georgia Stroke Professional Alliance's quarterly meeting on February 19, 2014. The other recipients included Putnam General Hospital (25 beds or less category); South Georgia Medical Center (101-350 beds) and Atlanta Medical Center (more than 350 beds).

The award is granted to one hospital in each bed size category achieving the highest percentage in providing "the right care to the right patient every time" and participation in the Georgia Coverdell Acute Stroke Registry initiatives to improve outcomes.

"Once again, Habersham Medical Center's stroke care program has been recognized throughout the state," says Jerry Wise, CEO of Habersham Medical Center.  "We would like to thank our Physician Champions Dr. Rhett Weaver, HMC stroke team chairman, and Dr. Jim Hamilton, co-chair, and all the HMC employees for their commitment to providing the highest quality stroke care."

HABERSHAM VENUES ON FOX SPORTS SOUTH

A 30-minute feature of Anglers & Appetites, a Fox Sports South program, was filmed in Habersham County during March and April.  As the name implies, this showcases fishing and eating in Habersham County (two things we do best) - Fishing on Habersham's own Soque as well as Lake Russell and feeding the crew in Abby J's kitchen at Blackhawk Flyfishing.  Since Blackhawk is catch and release, Abby J, along with Phil Proctor of Anglers & Appetites, delighted the crew and guests with Springer Mountain Chicken (sponsor for the program), farm-to-table sides, some of Abby J's Blackhawk Salsa and newly released hot sauce - all prepared in Abby J's kitchen.

This program will be aired on the following dates and times - mark your calendar now:

  • May 31st @ 10:30 am
  • June 4th @ 8:00 am
  • June 5th @ 7:30 am
  • June 21st @ 10:30 am
  • June 25th @ 8:00 am
  • June 26th @ 7:30 am

The program will show

in the following states:

      • Georgia
      • Alabama
      • Mississippi
      • Tennessee
      • Kentucky
      • North Carolina
      • South Carolina

SRWA Office in Need of Supplies

Even though we are still sad about the loss of our very loved office, we are slowly rebuilding what may in many ways be an even better office. We haven't had time to compile the names of everyone who has donated a gift but will do that very soon to show our extreme appreciation. We are probably close to 80% towards having a complete and functioal office. We thought we'd list just a few final items we still need that you may have laying around.

  • broom
  • foot mats (at entrance)
  • digital camera (camera bag)
  • office phones (the ones we have are on loan)
  • table cloths (any colors)
  • plastic tubs or containers with lids (for storage)
  • fire extinquisher (seems funny I know)
  • smoke alarm (yep, this too)
  • kitchen dish soap / sponges
  • Cashbox (preferably with lock)
  • Any software (for MAC or WINDOWS)
  • Laserpointer
  • double AA triple AAA batteries (rechargable are ideal)
  • thumbdrives other external harddrives
  • river artwork
  • small table (to put a print on)
  • rubbermaid folding tables
  • display board
We cannot give enough thanks to those who have helped us get back on our feet!
